1) Wash your own vehicle

2) Change your vehicle's oil

3) Mow your lawn? If yes, hand-push. engine-push, rider

4) Shop for your family's groceries

5) Clean your home (as opposed to hired)

HCP does all that for me.

I used to do it myself until I heard cultural appropriation was racist.

No, I can't do any of those things. However, over my objections, my wife will not hire a maid and insists on cleaning our own home. My wife is a petite 120 lbs. and in her mid 70s.
I'm also pissed off at the VA. They had a lift installed on the back of my car to carry a motorized scooter but the damned lift is surprisingly in the way of a car wash so now I have to get my car washed by hand at $100 a pop. I'm going to have to pay out of my pocket to get the damned lift removed and then my scooter becomes nothing but an eyesore.

California is in severe drought. I don't wash my car, just lights and windows.
I don't change the oil.
I dug out my lawn and planted drought tolerant cover.
During pandemic I frequently got groceries delivered. I am actually glad to shop myself.
I clean my house, cook my meals, and clip Lucia's claws.

Or just don't wash your car. It rains 3/4 of the time over there.

Lanny,
You might want to check out this place to see if they can work around your lift issue and wash your car:

1) Wash your own vehicle - Probably 25% of the time

2) Change your vehicle's oil - No. I used to back in the day. When my step-daughters were of driving age, before I took them out practicing for the first time (with permits), they had to change the oil, change a tire, and learn on a clutch. This was pre-cell phone era.

3) Mow your lawn? If yes, hand-push. engine-push, rider. No, but when I did it was purely engine-pushed. I've never owned a sit-down mower.

4) Shop for your family's groceries - Mostly, yes. I used to work in a grocery store and love that vibe. My wife hates grocery shopping and is happy to relinquish those duties.

5) Clean your home (as opposed to hired). Just recently, no. With two dogs, we're happy to let someone else do it.

No, no, no, no, no.

Last time I mowed a lawn it was with one of these:

Who handles your grocery deliveries......or do you have a significant other pulling that duty?

Yes, no, yes, yes, yes

Groceries??? That's not what I eat. That's what my prey eats.

1) Wash your own vehicle - Yes, unless I am out of town and it needs a wash then I will use a drive through.

2) Change your vehicle's oil - Yes, unless it's a time issue I like to do it myself.

3) Mow your lawn? If yes, hand-push. engine-push, rider. Yes, and my grandfathers, and 3 other rental properties. engine-push.

4) Shop for your family's groceries - Luckily the women in my life enjoy doing that.

5) Clean your home (as opposed to hired) - All to often.

1. Sometimes. Depends on the weather, my mood and how much beer is in the fridge.

2. Not any more. I used to but I got too old and arthritic. And it was never a particularly favorite chore anyway. But it gets done every 5K miles religiously. Jiffy Lube is my friend…..

3. No longer have a lawn (thankfully). The front yard is all shrubs and taken care of by the HOA. My “backyard” is a large (15’ X 45’) courtyard that I maintain. Which is mainly keeping shrubs watered and fed, along with squirrel trapping (you haven’t lived until you’ve seen a squirrel trying to bury birdseed in a fake lawn) and general clean up. I had a huge, beautiful yard at our last place that I pretty much landscaped from scratch and it took way too much work to maintain to my preferences. Life’s too short and getting shorter.

4. All the time and always have. Good excuse to get out. And after 45 years of marriage my wife still can’t get my choice of beer correct on her own…..

5. Yes, my wife and I share the duties. We did a short term experience with a maid service several years ago but they are so undependable and flaky. Plus, we are very picky about quality of service. I highly doubt the person exists who can get a floor cleaner than I (it’s almost a phobia. And sorry Lanny, I’ll challenge your wife to a floor clean off without hesitation). And the bottom line is that I absolutely hate paying others to do work I am still capable of performing.

Yes to all. Only change my own oil in spring/summer though. Wintertime, fuck that.

1) Wash your own vehicle - yes. I have the ceramic coating, so I can't take it through a car wash.

2) Change your vehicle's oil - no.

3) Mow your lawn? If yes, hand-push. engine-push, rider - Yes, and we use a very simple corded mower.

4) Shop for your family's groceries - Yes. My wife mostly handles this, but I do a bit as well.

5) Clean your home (as opposed to hired) - Yes. Although, I make very few of the messes.

I got no time for any of this. I have 3 kids in sports... Which means I'm also broke.

So anything I can pay somebody to do which doesn't cost much more than me doing myself I pay for.

I pay for oil changes because it's cheap, and getting rid of the oil is too much of a hassle now. The garbage company used to take it but gave us a letter about it, so that's all the excuse I needed to stop.

I pay for car washes when we have enough time to wait in the line...

Everything else gets severely neglected...
