IMO, Stott's won't be going anywhere as Dame wants this core group together for at least 2 more years.

That was my reaction.. Messina has coaching experience at the biggest levels in Europe. Easy to see why he'd be trusted the most. In the end, Pop had his pick out of many great assistants.

Hand brad Stevens a blank check.
You know i was kind of thinking about Brad Stevens?
Terry has a playoff record of 12-28 with 40 games. Of course he also played the Warriors two times in that stretch. Which would account for 8 losses.
Stevens has a record of 14-20 in 34 games. He had one good playoff season last year but really didn't do much other than that. Arguably has had better teams to coach.
Not sure he is much better than Terry Stotts. Seems to be a flavor of the week type guy that has had his overall record regular season and playoffs helped by being in a much weaker conference. His team this year would not get past the Pelicans IMO.

Is "Mutually agreed to part ways" the same as "Firing"?
He just interviewed in PHX last week. So maybe he had something lined up knowing they were going to let him go. ATL should have played hard ball and got compensation for him at least.

think they'd rather take the 14 mil savings and hire a first time coach for cheap.

I think Stevens is a quality coach and what your post showed me is that it's not as simple as just coaching and when you are in a conference as tight as the west was this year anything can happen and we slumped at the wrong time another team was peaking. Would the results be identical next year in the playoffs? Nobody can say with certainty.

For around 3 mil a team can purchase a draft pick that's likely to be as good if not better than typical compensation received for a coach. I don't think it really plays into the mindset of most teams.

For the money?

Fun fact, Terry gets paid more per year than Stevens. Brad is on a 6 yr 22 mil deal through 2021/22. Terry is on a 3 yr 15 mil deal through 2019/20, so it's highly unlikely that he leaves BOS anytime soon.

Coaches getting paid more than or the same per year as Terry:

- Hoiberg
- Lue
- Carlisle
- SVG
- Kerr
- Doc ($10 mil per)
- Walton
- Kidd
- Thibs ($8mil per)
- Hornacek
- Donavan ($6mil per)
- Vogel
- Casey
- Pop ($11 mil per)

I don't think more money would be enough to get Brad here. He has a great situation in Boston (Big city so the NBA will allow them to win a ring, great management, and a great roster). Unless Allen gives him a 4 year/$100 million coaching contract Brad is going to laugh and hang up the phone.

Why? So Dame doesnt want to win a ring?

Sure he does, I just believe that he wants to try and keep the core players together and balance the roster out some. I guess the questions is, how to go about getting it done.
I may be totally wrong and Stotts may be gone soon?
Im just thinking they are working their 5 year plan of which next year is year four. If there was a feeling amongst players and management that they indeed went backwards and were trending down, yes maybe a change would be inevitable. Just not sure thats where they are at?
