Kelpie fetches world record-breaking $35,200 at Australian working dog auction

A kelpie described as the “complete package with a cool personality” has been sold for $35,200 (£19,200), breaking the world record for the sale of a working dog.

Eulooka Hoover, a two-year-old male dog, was sold to anonymous buyers at the Casterton Kelpie Association’s annual working dog auction in Victoria on Sunday, beating the previous auction record of $25,000 (£13,650) set in 2019.

Kelpies are a uniquely Australian breed of sheep dog that are descendants of the British border collie and were developed for herding both sheep and cattle.

Kelpies are great dogs! They're working dogs so they have huge amounts of energy, and must be exercised daily. Not just a leisurely stroll either, lots of running. My last dog was a Kelpie X, and he would chase his ball until he vomited, have a drink of water, then bring his ball to me to keep going. He also herded me when I mowed the lawn, darting in to nip the wheels. He lived until 18 years of age. They just want to work all day every day. Smart as a whip too. And great high jumpers. If you run sheep or cattle, or have an active lifestyle, the Kelpie is the dog for you.

I know good people can raise pit bulls to be good but there are so many bad guys out there who own pit bulls that I think we need to discuss whether pit bulls should be allowed in the hands of private owners.
