They work for Portland they need to work IN Portland. If you want downtown Portland to come back you need people working, shopping, eating in downtown Portland.

There is a neighbor in St Helens that is almost all Portland Police. It's their little safe space and that's BS. We need our police living and being part of the communities they serve and the same goes for the City of Portland workers.

The vast majority of them had to work in Portland when they first got hired. If that is something they no longer want to do they should work elsewhere.

DT Portland is really struggling. It's hard to convince businesses to rent, buy, and/or invest in DT Portland. It's a bad message when the city's workers don't want to be there.

I think all police should be given houses in the cities that they work. As should all teachers. That should be part of their compensation package.

I'd be all for converting that business space they're trying to fill up into multi-use and forcing all police, city workers and teachers to live in Portland.

But that has nothing to do with forcing people to come into an office. Which is an absolute waste of space and productivity, unless required by the job. But then that should be determined on a job by job basis.

If downtown Portland can't come back without arbitrarily forcing people to be there then it doesn't need to come back.

You need to put things in downtown Portland that make people WANT to be there.

Btw, St Helens is the most backwards, fucked up suburb that Portland has (I know some might think it’s a stretch to call a suburb). There’s been a major meth problem going on there 30+ years and drive a couple miles west into the woods and you legit have inbreeding going on.

So, the latest Don-trocity has the potential to be a doozy. Freezing all federal loans and grants to eliminate all traces of “wokeness”, DEI, environmental, and any other non-MAGA viewpoint is an unprecedented Executive Branch power grab. Cut the student loans and Pell grants until universities are forced to adopt the right group-think. Rental assistance programs being used by minorities? Toss them in the streets. Blue states won’t toe the line on abortion, sanctuary cities, etc.? Let’s see how they like losing a third of their budgets. Should be some interesting court cases while the people suffer.

VA just called and approved my upcoming colonoscopy so by me, they are still funded and up and running. The dumbest thing Trump could do is to gut Social Security and the VA....talk about losing votes....folks have no idea how many vets and seniors are reliant upon their benefits to survive...want to increase homelessness? Shutter the VA and Social Security

some of the services that lost funding in the unconstitutional freeze by Trump are things like safe drinking water EPA, suicide prevention hotline, health care services for homeless or disabled people, doctors without borders, lots of emergency services. Medical clinics. At a time when shelter, well being and health care as well as mental illness are front page issues, gutting them will amplify their impact on our society. Nothing good comes of this. We are now a govt of the billionaires, by the billionaires and for the billionaires and fuck the people. Congress according to the constitution has the purse strings, not the executive branch of govt. I do post about other things besides politics from time to time, when those topics arise, which is rare. You may want to take a look at all the thread topics in the OT section sometime, and the fact there is a clear political bend with an infatuation for an orange person as the theme for 90% of them. You also may take a look at who starts these threads. It isn’t me. Single me out all you want but just know you’re doing it with blinders on.

So, Trump has basically moved to remove transgendered people from the military and from existence.

He's removing decades and decades of equality protections to hurt the rights of minorities.

He's shutting down federal funding for poor people, a lot of those minorities.

He's ordered the stoppage of life saving medicines in poor countries across the world, in what looks like an attempt to purge a large number of the population. It will certainly cause endemics if not another pandemic.

His war on immigrants is causing farms to not have workers so prices will go up further.

He's inacting tariffs, so prices will go up further.

This is only what week 2-3. He's got what 163 more weeks to come after the rest of the LBTGQ community, to come after minorities, to maybe come after you.

Pretty soon we will likely see him stop sending funds to blue states.

Sounds like project 25 is up and running. For those of you who said this wouldn't be bad, or that he wouldn't do any crazy shit, you can take your heads out of your asses now, or at least admit you knew/hoped he'd do all this, and wanted it the whole time.
