Did anyone really think they were a legitimate contender though? Being good in the regular season doesn't always equate to being good in the post season. It's kinda like the Nuggets. I have never looked at them as a legitimate contender, and the reason is that their foundation is flawed.

Mitchell/Gobert (not a championship caliber core)
Jokic/Murray (not a championship caliber core)

Who has won rings lately?
Curry/Wiggins/Draymond/Klay
LeBron/Anthony Davis
Giannis/Middleton.

So if you compare those teams, what was Utah and Denver missing? A generational talent at guard or forward. I'm not convinced that Jokic or Gobert or Embiid can lead a team to a title as the best player on their team.

People had these type of doubts about Milwaukee before they won. How Bud couldn't coach in the playoffs.

Nobody thought the Raptors had a shot at winning.

Go back some years and there was all the talk a team like the Warriors would never win a title shooting jumpers when they first did it.

Go back some more years and look at the Sheed Pistons, or Dirk Mavs. Many of those teams were long shots to win the title.

I'd say Jokic as a two time MVP might even be more accomplished than Giannis was. If his fellow starters were healthy they might have been able to contend. They were never a #1 seed though. Utah never had an MVP; but they were a very deep team.

Now I don't think those teams were ever favorites, and maybe never in the top5, but I'd agree just about any team with a #1 seed is a legit contender.

Lowe:

“Can I give you my sneaky favorite Donovan Mitchell team? This couldn’t happen until January 15th because of a free agent that just re-signed with this team.

But a team that’s trying to thread the needle between breaking up their team and re-building, re-tooling.

If I’m Portland don’t I have to think about Anfernee Simons, plus I might have to include Sharpe because I can’t trade any picks right now because one pick I owe that’s out the door.

Now I can amend that, it’s owed to Chicago but amending it is complicated and depending on how I amend it, it might not free up enough picks that I can keep Sharpe out of the deal.

The Blazers absolutely love Sharpe and they’ve loved Sharpe the entire pre-draft process.

If I’m them and I’ve got this team where I’m trying to re-tool around Dame, the key supporting guys are between the ages of 27 and 30, Donovan Mitchell fits right in there. He’s younger that 27.

Simons is really good, big upside, legit scorer, Sharpe is obviously a prized prospect. Don’t I at least have to think about that if I’m Portland.”

Yes.... let's get a 6'1 guard who duplicates what Ant/CJ brought to the team.

What happened to 6'6 shooting guards?

If e duplicated what they brought, it'd be one thing, but he's a much worse shooter than either of them. Bad idea anyways, but worse when he's a career 36% shooter, and has seemingly given up on defense since college.

Lol man what? Dump all our assets on another undersized shooting guard? One that doesn't even really defend? Man whaaaaat? This is just an obsession with "names" with no actual thought behind it.

Gimme Ant over Mitchell btw.

You can't even call this dude undersized. He's just straight up small. Allen Iverson was able to play shooting guard at 6'1, but he was the exception, not the rule.

Mitchell has a crazy wingspan and standing reach relative to his height though

If we can get 6 Knicks 1st rounders for Dame the trade should happen asap. At least half will be lottery picks.

Most of the picks the Knicks own are other teams' protected picks.

But straight up, if NY wanted Dame in exchange for Barrett/Toppin/Quickley/filler/picks... I'd listen.

Why are people saying mitchell is bigger than cj? He's 6'1
CJ is like an inch and a half taller than Mitchell but CJ's wingspan is 6'6" and his standing reach is 8'0.5" while Mitchells' wingspan is 6'10 and has a standing reach of 8'4". Also Mitchell is far more athletic than CJ which effectively adds to his size. He also weighs a little more than CJ. So he does have a size advantage.

Zach Lowe is HIGH as BEEP if he believes that the Jazz would even entertain that package he mentioned cause IF the Blazers made that offer Ainge would do ONE of two things --- Fall out of his seat laughing OR just hang up or maybe both.

I swear outside of Woj the ESPN NBA experts and i use that term VERY VERY loosely is a complete joke for the most part and this is a fact -- lol

I have some advice for ESPN -- I believe i heard Haynes in a FA maybe they should get him and fire half of the other dolts THEN maybe just maybe the NBA coverage would be passable on ESPN.

I agree the Jazz probably don't consider that deal. However, you'll find plenty of Blazer fans think it's a bad deal for Portland because of how much we overvalue our own guys.

If I were the jazz you trade him EAST --

Also I think Durant and Mitchell IF and when these deals happen are multi team deals cause I am not sure outside of maybe a handful of teams have assets to trade for these type of players.

My bold but crazy prediction :

Mitchell ends up in OKC -- they have a shit load of picks and such PLUS they just signed Dort and granted they will have to wait what til Jan or so to trade him ( could be wrong ) but he would be a good starting piece to throw at the Jazz

I think he will be moved before the season starts.

Glad you're not the GM
That's fine. I think a young core of Ant/Sharpe/Barrett/Toppin with Quickley/Keon/Walker/Watford would be an excellent and exciting young base for a rebuild. Could be real good real soon-- all of those top 4 have all star potential. Add in several extra picks along with that and we'd be near the top of ESPN's "future rankings" immediately.
