Draft Poll: PG, SG, SF, PF, or C?

I have always felt that you select the best player available especially as late as we are picking. If two players are basically equal then the tie breaker should be of need. You want to get the best asset available.

I was all on that OG bandwagon last year.

It's close, but OG had a SERIOUS injury history, which is why he dropped in the first place.

I was hoping OG would drop to us at 26 because of the injury allowing us to get both a big and a wing with big defensive potential.

3 picks before we could have got him. Almost made it!

Their salary cap is being occupied by Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and Kevin Durant.

Our salary cap is being occupied by Dame, CJ, Evan Turner, Meyers Leonard, and Mo Harkless.

Golden State can afford to plug tiny holes with rookies, because they don't have any massive needs. We have some massive fucking holes in our lineup.

They also get the benefit of ring shopping vets willing to play for the vet min for a chance at winning a title. We don't.

The only cheap players we get are rookies and cast offs - both of which seem to be Neil's strong suit. We'll probably end up losing one of those cast offs (Shabazz) but he will likely be replaced with another (Baldwin). I'd really like to see Neil find us the SF equivalent of Baldwin.

I still feel like the only way this team is going to get significantly better is if we somehow luck into a true impact player in the draft. We can’t get anyone truly good in free agency, it’s unlikely that we will trade any of our prime assets to retool the team and nobody will give us anything of value for our scrubs.

We have #24 this year. Utah has #24 last year and ended up trading up to get Mitchell. Just saying. If we had someone like Mitchell coming into this team, this would be a different conversation.

Getting a few players like Siakam, Richardson etc. could also improve this team. Not one but a few, to bolster the bench.

If only it was that easy. Saying draft the best player available is easy. Identifying who that player actually is is the hard part. Just go back and look at the 2011 draft. In hindsight, the two BPAs in that draft were Kawhi Leonard (15th pick) and Jimmy Butler (30th pick).

which is why I'm, even a year later, I'm disappointed that OG didn't fall to us. Balwin + OG + Collins as our core youth movement
would be totally baller.

So true. As in any list such as best this or that it is all subjective anyway. What one guy thinks is the BPA another person could have an entirely different opinion. It's why drafts never work out as perfect as some would like to think. We got 2 players at 6 and 10 that were at minimum the second best player available in their respective drafts.

To use a baseball analogy, there are a lot more strikeouts than home runs in the draft - even when picking in the lottery.

Dame was a walk off grand slam at 6th.

C.J. was more of a plain old regular home run at 10. The only thing keeping him from being another grad slam was how good Giannis turned out to be.

Not only is C.J. better than the vast majority of the players drafted after him, he is also clearly better than 8 of the 9 picked before him. The only player picked before him that's better is Oladipo, and until this season, the edge would have gone to C.J. as the best lottery pick of the 2013 draft.
