I've always been pretty consistent with my opinion on how to build a roster.
I ultimately want 6 guys i trust to bring me to the Conf Finals, 1-2 extra young guys and 2 other role players would be nice too, but they are easier to find.
I already said 2 summers ago that as a fan i would keep Lillard&CJ, but if i were the GM, i would trade both of them for Anthony Davis or any other star
i really believe in. I faced a backlash in here for saying that.
So....
As a fan:
Right now i'm keeping Lillard, CJ, Collins and Nurk (as a trading chip, AD is going to be the only big men in the league who is relevant to deep stages in the playoffs).
I'm not sure what Baldwin is made of, if he and Napier are cheap then i'll extend them.
If it was my job:
Lillard is approaching 30 and he wants to win something big NOW. We ain't winning now, yet we do have chips to start fresh with young players on better contracts.
If KP or Kawai didn't get injured then i would have said we should offer MAJOR assets to get one of them, just so we could get that first building block and then you add draft picks and you let the train roll from there.
AD or even KAT are not available so it's even harder to rebuild around an upcoming MVP right now (not that im that high on KAT). If it was possible i'd trade both Lillard and CJ for Donovan Mitchell.
That leaves us with trading CJ and Lillard for guys under 24 who'll be good as a trade package down the line. I had this idea of trading Lillard and CJ for Jokic and Murray ...but that's a tough sell to the fanbase.
