any word on up coming draft workouts?

Sort of.

Chad Buchanan was on Wheels at work this afternoon (in the third hour) and said they'd have some late first round/early second round type guys in Portland Friday, but the list of players hadn't been confirmed. Off-hand I'd guess Rodrigue Beuabois will be back for his third year in a row :dunno:

I'm supposed to be in there next Wed!

Tomorrow looks like a fun day to be at the GSW practice facility

Actually two words about draft workouts this year.

Who cares

I will be shocked if Portland even drafts a player to keep in the 1st round.

Who knows? Pritchard is an active drafter. Just because some people on this forum think that rookies are now an awful thing doesn't mean Pritchard also feels that way. I would guess that Pritchard likes the idea of using the draft each year as a source of "free" talent to keep infusing into the franchise.

I won't be at all surprised if he drafts one or even two players, to keep, in the first round. I also won't be surprised if he trades out of the first round entirely.

I kind of disagree, but only because we currently only have 10 players under contract (maybe 11 if you want to count Channing) So assuming that a free agent or two is added or some trades get made to bring in guys with at least some experience I still see some holes that will need to be filled and a 24th pick is a pretty cheap way to do that. The numbers of contract players gets even lower if we do a 2 or 3 for 1 trade.

I think we're at 11 not counting Frye.

1. LaMarcus Aldridge
2. Nicolas Batum
3. Jerryd Bayless
4. Steve Blake
5. Rudy Fernandez
6. Greg Oden
7. Travis Outlaw
8. Joel Przybilla
9. Sergio Rodriguez
10. Brandon Roy
11. Martell Webster

We could easily go lower with Blake or Outlaw being let go, although I don't find either of those guys very likely to be gone without a trade.

I agree, though, that we probably WILL draft a guy in the first round... we have roster space and/or willingness to pay for overseas development. Adding either a first rounder or Freeman and then a pair of free agent veterans would put us at 14, which I'd imagine is where we'll want to be headed into the season.

I believe it is Freeland, Joel Freeland.

forget merging, mods, for the love of god lock this thread up before someone unleashes this photoshopped monstrosity upon us!

On a serious note - I'm sure we'll end up drafting and keeping at least one player, it'll be hard for KP to keep trading 2nd rounders for future ones given how weak the draft is. More importantly, everything is going to go down on draft night, even if it won't be official until a week later (man that wait is going to kill us...). The draft workouts might give us a clue if the guys KP drafts are really for us or not. For example, if we take Beaubois (already worked out 3 times) at 24, chances are he was actually picked for us and won't be traded. And yes, I know that Bayless never worked out for the Blazers, but he's the anomaly.

Crap, I completely forgot about Martell; he's like the invisible Blazer.

Doesn't everyone expect Sergio to be gone though?

Many do, but purely off not liking Rodriguez. He's still under contract. I doubt Pritchard will simply cut him, so the question is whether a trade will come along involving Rodriguez that makes sense for Portland. I don't think it's a given that Rodriguez will be gone.

You don't think he'd move him for a future lottery protected pick or for something like one of Minnesota, OKC, or Memphis' late first round picks this year? I know KP won't just cut Chacho, but I'd put the odds of him being in a Blazers uniform next season at somewhere south of 10% :dunno:

Hmm? I'm not sure how this question is relevant. I didn't say there's no way Pritchard moves him. I said I don't think it's a given. For Pritchard to move him (considering we both seem to agree he won't just be cut/dumped), he'd need to offered some value. Will that happen? I don't know, but it isn't a given.

I was actually asking what you thought would be fair value? Starting my question with "You don't think ..." as the lead might have given the wrong impression.

Ahh. Yes, I misunderstood your intent.

I think Pritchard would ship Rodriguez for a first round pick. That's what he started out as, a lower-level first round pick and reasonable people can disagree on whether he's now more or less valuable than the pick he was taken with. I'd say less, as I think he's following the Sebastian Telfair path, but a couple of posters here that I respect think that he's still promising for his age (which, admittedly, is still very young). So I'll just take a pass on the whole thing and approximate his value to a late first round pick, in the right system.

Considering that Portland has three point guards and none of them are good starters for next season, meaning another point guard will likely need to be added, I think Pritchard would love to liquidate a point guard into a draft pick. Bayless is apparently off the table (rightly so, IMO, unless he's part of a package for a young prime star). Blake is still their starter and moving him would be enormously risky until a better point guard is acquired. That leaves Sergio.
