Just saw it on KPTV. Not his actual announcement, but that he announced it.

If he's not MAGA, and speaks out against things he should speak out against, I'm fine with him running.

If he's a just another boot licker, ex Blazer or not, he can fuck all the way off.

if he’s not MAGA who will Trump and Elon give money to oppose him in the primaries?

Kotek is a weak candidate, a non-maga republican could win. There’s no way a Trump backed governor could win right now
Id think They would like Drazan. Who I think loses to a rematch of Kotek.

Dudley... he could make things interesting if he runs on a different platform.

I would suppose part of his platform would be to keep the blazers here? And help the new owner get what he needs to keep the team here?

He would have to run as much more in the middle and align himself away from the fringe right. And it might not matter because i think trust has been lost amongst most the middle with whats happened the last year.

Hard to see this as anything but a waste of time. How could he possibly have a better chance in 2026 than he did in 2010?

Because people are sick of a certain type of repub and he can be something different? He also was the closest republican gov oregon has had vote wise in decades.

I don't think he will win, but if he can play spoiler....

Oh, but he's a different KIND of Nazi? I'm sure that message will go over well.

If he can play spoiler, who is he going to spoil? He's running as a republican.

People are also sick of a certain type of Dem... I'm not sure if it'll make much of a difference though.

If he runs as an independent if Drazan wins the nod, he could pull a ton of votes over.

I think the right certainly has some damage control to attend to but I think people can differentiate the Romneys with what we have now.

He needs to do more than just sound smart (actually, every candidate does). He needs to make it known where he stands on things, even things that are historically Republican or Conservative.

BUT he has a short leash, as does everyone who is a R, because lying to get peoples votes really only gets on those who were already going to vote for him but wanted to appear moderate.

If he repeatedly stands up to Trump, and doesn't change, he stands a chance. If he just acts like it, but capitulates, I don't think people will fall for it.

There are enough people, especially young people and women, who will never vote for a R because of what they've done the last 15 years.

Would he allow ICE a free hand in Oregon?
Does he consider what pronouns someone uses to be state business or a private matter?
Would he commit to developing renewable energy or does he focus on fossil fuels?

Agreed, if he did run as an independent he'll certainly succeed in re-electing Kotek, same as Betsy Johnson.

Probably that's a better route for him, though. As a Republican, he's going to have to spend the entire campaign trying to distance himself from Trump to win swing voters and yet also somehow get the Trump voters in Oregon excited enough about him to go vote.

Can he run to keep biological males out of girls sports? It's a very hard issue for Democrats because they want the LGBTQ vote but it's overwhelming even moderate Dem and all independent/Republicans vote strongly for that. Might help him if there are some high profile Oregon lawsuits.

Also crime, homeless camping are issues PDX moderates are sick of.

He'll be able to carry all non Portland areas but just seems very unlikely for a Republican to actually lead Oregon.

Everyone is sick of the homeless crisis. What policy is he going to run on that will convince the moderates and Republicans that he has the solution?

Keeping males out of female sports is such a non issue it's kinda weird to think that's a difference maker.

I hope whoever runs for governor has far more pressing issues that they worry about.
I've spoken to A LOT of Trump voters who said that was the deciding factor for them.

If I could easily answer that I'd probably be working in politics.
I don't think there is a moral or constitutional solution that Republicans and moderates would like.

Basically, I think the only way he could get more of these votes than he'd already get by being a Republican would be to demonize the homeless the way Trump has immigrants.

Sounds like what you're saying is Trump voters need a made up scary boogieman to justify their lack of empathy, sympathy, racist tendencies and overall douchebaggery.

A lot of people voted for Bush II because they feared the awful terrible catastrophic things that would happen if same sex couples married. The fact that candidates pander to prejudice doesn't make the prejudice rational.
