and thats why ladies and gentleman... we needed a trade badly.

It’s looking lately as if Roy is wearing down some. He carries such a big load and these are games, against the lesser teams of the league, when the Blazers shouldn’t have to ride him so hard.

Oh, yeah? He sure didn't look like he was wearing down in the fourth quarter last night. That's when he was at his best.

Yah, we shoulda traded Batum!

I think we could have used a trade but I'm guessing we didn't get what KP, Nate and PA wanted. I'm guessing we will end up in probably a better situation this summer. I was at first a little upset we didn't make a trade but I think it might work in our favor if we can get a PG or SF and a backup PF this summer and clear some of the dead wood out Frye etc. I never wanted VC but really wanted Butler with maybe a Wallace or RJ if we didn't have to give up to much.

Just a thought, what about getting a legit 2nd option to go with Roy in the backcourt? He's a FA this summer but is asking for a lot. But he is a legit 2nd option who's ready NOW.

If Jaynes spent less time sitting on the deck at his houseboat and more time around the team, he'd know that Roy has been battling the stomach flu bug that's been going around the team. The fact that he was able to come back in the second half and play the way he did is a testament to how great a player he is.

I think if KP and Nate doesn't think Bayless is going to be our future PG I could see going for him. I think he isn't going to get the money he thought he would get before the economy tanked and we could afford him. I still think Bayless is our future PG and I would rather go for A.Miller first.

Even if Roy isn't wearing down this should be a concern for the future. We often depend on Roy to ISO to get us out of shitty situations because we have no real other offensive scheme (except the Travis ISO when Travis plays PF primarily). It is perfectly fine when we do the Roy ISO in the 4th - when we have to start it in the 1st and ride it for most of the game that becomes the problem. This is why an offense that isn't so predictable is key - it gives us more variety in addition to keeping Roy from taking any unnecessary toll on his body. With his multiple knee surgeries and his driving to the hoop (and subsequently hitting the floor) that isn't a good sign for a few years down the road when he should be entering his prime.

Joel and Bayless were coming off the flu during the Dallas game, and Roy had it. It was choking back pepto on the bench.

But Quick did say the Blazers were thinking about telling the guys to take it a little bit easy during the summer, since they are prone to work their butts off. The body does need recovery time, and they don't get it during the NBA season.

In the future, if we are able to keep all of our talent, we may be able to actually play our starters less minutes than average, but this season, our bench sucks, so we need to have Roy come in to save the day all the time.

What's the fucking point of continuing to lament the fact that a major trade wasn't made? We get it. You've now repeated yourself to the point that I have to wonder if you're not a flesh and blood person, but a customized piece of software that endlessly and automatically posts 1 of 5 pre-composed messages at set intervals -- I'm sure it's only a matter of time before you bring up the "fact" that we are not making the playoffs.

As for Roy wearing down, it's possible, but thems the breaks, other guys need to step up their games (like Nicolas did last night, and LaMarcus has been doing in the past couple of months) it's got fuck all to do with trades, and it's got every thing to do with guys already on the team taking responsibility for their own play.

All players are wearing down at this point in the season. And if Brandon is our superstar, he is going to be carrying the load in a lot of games. He got some pretty good unexpected rest in the blowouts against the Spurs and LA anyway.

I don't know what a trade would've done to help out either. You're not going to blow out these teams who are fighting for their playoff lives every night. This is the NBA, not some little boys league.
But this is a time that Roy and the guys should remember when the offseason hits, and try to rest their bodies up as much as they can.

The major problem has been not putting teams that we should beat away early and having to make come backs. Always working from behind. Othewise we could rest our starters a little more.

Last year I wonder if the reason we took a dive at the end of the season might have been because most of the team started a month earlier than other teams. As we go deeper in the playoffs we'll have to get more rest during the summer.

How does our bench suck? We have one of the best 2nd units in the NBA. Right now its a little weak with some key players out but for the season we have a great bench. + when Webster comes back we are going to have him or Butum off the bench! Most team would kill to have a bench like ours.

i swear.... blazer fans have more excuses then any fanbase in professional sports.

hard to tell where they get it from

barrett? theres always a reason the other team is shotting over 50% and why we arent hitting our shots.

pritchard.... let it bake... in love with every player "he drafts"

oden ... "hes really gonna be a good player someday"

im just glad that "next year" i wont have to hear this crap cause the KP honeymoon will be over.

Absolutely. Most teams who lost players like Oden and Rudy would be in deep trouble. Obviously, it hurts Portland, but not crushingly so because they are deep.

Once Oden and Fernandez are back, the bench will be very formidable again.

Finally. You admit that you aren't a fan.

Ehh..I think it's really over-rated. Our bench gets more playing time than most other teams, which is why we usually out-score the other team's bench.

Sergio sucks. Rudy is a good player; but he hit a wall back in December, and hasn't been very impressive since. Outlaw is wildly inconsistent, Frye is an atrocious, Bayless will be very good, but he doesn't get much PT, we do have one shining bright spot off our "bench" Joel Pryzbilla, but he's actually started a good portion of our games.

Why have we won so many games this year? I don't think it's because of our bench, it's mostly been to Brandon Roy's 4th quarter heroics. If Brandon didn't have that super-star will the team to victory ability, we wouldn't even be in playoff contention right now.

I agree that the Blazers depend on Roy a little too much. But I think it's a problem that should take care of itself. As Aldridge, Oden, and Bayless develop, Roy should be able to defer more often. I don't expect Outlaw and Blake to get a whole lot better, but when they're shooting well, it helps Roy out a ton. And then there's the enormous upside of Batum, and the imminent return of Martell Webster. I agree that the Blazers need to give Roy some help. I disagree that it requires a trade.

Early in the season, depth was certainly a strong point. At this point, injuries have really pushed it to the limit. One more big injury, and Nate will be holding the team together with duct-tape and spackle!

In the games that Roy has been "wearing down", LaMarcus Aldridge has been doing the exact opposite. I think we're fine. Batum, Jerryd, Travis, and other role players will and have been picking up the slack.

He's a fan. However, he's a L*ker fan. Not a fan of the Blazers. Can you blame him after the smackdown we gave his beloved Purple & Piss Monday night?

I would submit that the Sergio/Blake/Batum/Outlaw/Frye unit I thought I saw a bit of last night was the "duct-tape and spackle" lineup without the extra injury.

I've edited my post before I even submitted it. Mods, you can thank me later.

You are unbelievable. Never fail to disappoint.

:sigh:

I do agree with Dwight James that Roy carries a lot of this team and that can wear him down. When Rudy comes back perhaps you try to play Roy 28 minutes a couple games. Or if there is period where the team is playing well with Roy on the bench perhaps you keep him out a little longer. But it's just tough this year in the west, if it drops us from 3 to 8 then getting Roy rest wasn't worth it. In other years you might sacrifice the possibility of dropping a seed to get your best player a break.

Perhaps he can have some lower intensity practices and Nate can consider giving him extra time off.

Or run some more offensive through other players. Make Aldridge more of a focal point and stagger their time on the court, reducing the minutes they play together.

I do think next preseason the team should alter their preparation. Lance Armstrong didn't train at 100% year round, he gave his body breaks and ramped up intensity at key specific intervals throughout the year. Then he'd achieve maximum performance in a short 2 week span. The goal next year will be more focused on peaking as the playoffs start, and summer workouts should be modified accordingly.

So Mixum...What do you think of OUR Lakers situation? Think Odom will be playing well in the playoffs? Think OUR Bynum will be back up to speed when the playoffs start?

You said we wouldn't make the playoffs without a trade. Well then, how are we in first place with a month left to play. Do you still think we'll miss the playoffs?

Speaking of wearing out, Jaynes has worn out his welcome at every paper in Portland, has worn a wig 'cause his hair is wearing thin, and wears sweats to hide that worn out spare tire he's been lugging around for decades.
