Orlando, FLA. -
Local 6 Sports Director David Pingalore learned Friday night from NBA sources that the Orlando Magic are "very close" to trading center Dwight Howard.

Pingalore's sources, who requested anonymity because of the sensitivity of the proceedings, were not ready to name the team that the Magic were tradingHoward to at this time. One source told Pingalore they were "very confident that a deal is close tobeing done." The parameters of trades can be discussed now, but they can't become official until Wednesday under NBA rules.

The sources believe that the Brooklyn Nets are out of the mix to land Howard.

The sources could not stress enough that a deal is close to being finalized and that the Magic will meet Howard'strade request to play elsewhere next season.

Brooklyn had been Howard's first choice from December, when he first asked to be traded. Howard said he will notsign an extension after this season with any team other than the Nets. The all-star center's preferred destination has been limited to just one team since the traderequest that he reiterated to new Magic GM Rob Hennigan last Friday in Los Angeles.

Pingalore's sources believe that the Los Angeles Lakers are very much in play for Howard. The Lakers reached an agreement for a sign-and-trade deal for two-time MVP point guard Steve Nash on Wednesday. A deal for Howard could result in the Lakers shipping center Andrew Bynum or power forward Pau Gasol to Orlando.

fuck if the lakers get him, next season could be pretty boring

From what I heard this ping guy gets one right out of every like 50,000

Anyone but the Lakers please.

If only Babbitt would have won the 3pt shooting title this year we could have traded him for Howard.

Actually I kind of hope it is the Lakers. All that horseshit about the lockout creating competitive balance and spreading talent around the league. Ha!

Why would you give up a league-champion 3pt shooter for a center with a potentially debilitating back injury he had surgery on like yesterday, and he's still recovering from?

Nash, Bryant, World Peace, Gasol, Howard. Getting pretty equitable with the Heat.

If that is really the Lakers starting 5 and they were to play team ball the right way, Kobe should be third or fourth wheel. But is he gonna be okay with that? That lineup should be all about Nash setting up Pau and Dwight. Kobe couldn't stand playing second fiddle to Shaq, now what is he going to do? That is a mess of egos that could blow up in their face. Remember, there was once a Payton/Kobe/Shaq/Malone/George starting lineup and they didn't win the championship.

I think if you accept that Portland is never going to have the ball bounce it's way again, and that 77 was a fluke, you almost stop caring.

Kobe needs to understand that his days of being the man is long behind him. The whole point of bringing Howard in is to bring someone that can carry them when it's needed. Kobe can longer do that during a long playoff stretch. He is a lil old and his body has way too much wear and tear. But in the end, I think he understands this. If he doesn't, Phil will get him to understand it. I don't think it will be needed though.

When the 300% luxury tax kicks in next season will Buss consider amnestying Kobe's $30 million salary?

Dang. Thought this thread was about Jaynes.

For every 5mill over the luxery tax they increase the amount they pay. Lakers will be at 91mill in salaries next year with the lux tax at, if the tax (i'v heard its expected at 74mill) they only pay 2.50 in Tax. Still a shitload man I thought they would be higher :(

If they trade for Dwight I think they'll have to take on some crappy Orlando contracts such as Turkoglu or Glen Davis, that'll bump them up into a higher bracket. They will probably be repeat offenders which is a higher rate too.

Takes 4 years out of 5 years and the count doesnt' start tell next year. Since they have to send out almost similiar money deals I dunno how that will really effect them, at most bump their salaries up to 95, 99 with incentives.

Last night, Andrew Bynum posted, "Does blue suit me?" on his Facebook page. Is he hinting that he'll be dealt to the Orlando Magic? #hmmm
