Very few things shock me anymore. As the parent of a 2nd-grader, this does. Then again, Bill Clinton taught us all that oral sex isn't actually "sexual relations", so I guess I'm not surprised that a public school teacher would find these actions acceptable.

Also, the teacher is only 'suspended'???? How about sexual abuse charges?

Oakland 2nd Graders Reportedly Engage In Sex Acts, Teacher Suspended

OAKLAND (CBS 5) — A teacher at Oakland’s Markham Elementary School has been suspended indefinitely after school officials said a pair of second-graders performed sex acts on each other in class – with the teacher present.

“I think everyone is taken aback over this shocking incident,” Troy Flint, the spokesman for the Oakland Unified School District, told CBS 5 on Thursday. “Of course, it is hard to understand how that could have occurred.”

Flint said the sex acts incident was one of two separate cases under investigation involving the teacher; both incidents occurred last week in the same classroom but he said they didn’t come to the attention of school officials until Wednesday.

In one case, several students apparently took off their clothes and were naked in the classroom. In the second incident, a boy and girl reportedly engaged in oral sex in front of their classmates.

Flint indicated that the suspended teacher, whose name was not released by the school district, was present for both of the incidents.

Flint and Markham principal Pam Booker said they were limited in terms of the details they could release at this time because of the ongoing investigation into the matter.

Booker noted that the students said to be involved in the incidents were interviewed by school leaders.

In a letter sent to parents of Markham students on Thursday, Booker offered an apology by telling them that the incidents “represent an unacceptable lack of supervision. I understand there is great anger over this news.”

Fucking Unions, the system is broke

This.

If this story is proven, this teacher should go to prison. I would withhold all salary and benefits until the charges are proven or disproven. If I were a parent of a child in this class, that teacher would not be safe.

I come from East Oakland where the youngsters get hyphy!

is anyone surprised? really?

Yes. Even with my lowered expectations from society, I expect that the people we trust with our children will keep them from getting naked and engaging in fellatio. Call me old fashioned.

This is California we're talking about. Where we have cities (Berkley) paying to turn men into women.

I'm not surprised at all as this is one of the natural results of a liberal society. That said, what does it have to do with unions?

What does it have to do with liberals?

Most child molesters are redneck inbreds.

I agree with the first statement, but the second is dangerously wrong-headed. Enact a rule like that and no teacher will be safe.

BTW, does anybody here remember the McMartin preschool case?

Horrible charges were leveled, lives were ruined, and it all turned out to be a fabrication.

a friend of mine is a pretty strict Mormon and has 4 kids, 11 to 7. The 11-y/o (boy) was invited to a birthday party/sleepover with some friends from his 6th-grade class. My friend mistakenly thought that he didn't have to worry about a 6th-grade sleepover--turns out there were girls there going to spend the night and the kid asked to come home. When the dad started asking questions, he found that there was a pretty high rate of STDs in the school b/c of "b-j parties". Among middle-schoolers!

Why couldn't this have happened to me?

There's something wrong with that kid.

Did someone say it was fellatio? The quote just said oral sex...

I don't know...I didn't grow up "religious", but there were definite "rights" and "wrongs". For instance, I wouldn't have taken a beer from the fridge in dad's garage at 11. I didn't steal stuff from the grocery store like other kids at school tried to, even though they weren't getting caught. I wouldn't have stayed around a party where 6th-graders were giving bj's. Not at 11. Would most people? :dunno:

Me neither. I would have waited until 12 at least, because it's not "right" for a young person to start drinking before noon.

STD rates were high because of BJ parties?

Its hard to get an STD from a BJ.

same thing it has to do with "liberal societies". Nothing.

I agree. especially considering at 11 years old, there isn't a lot there and I was a shy/modest kid.

I wasn't aiming that at the libs on the board, only noting that as a student of history the more liberal and permissive a society gets the more common this stuff is. And, the less it shocks people. But, knowing how sensitive your lefties are, if I have hurt your feelings, I gracefully apologize. I'll even throw a party with the ACLU and we can get some little kids for you to have your way with. Maybe Jocko's place? OK?
