Eating Crow about Scoot (1 Viewer)

I wanted either Thompson brother instead of Scoot in his draft as it left open the possibility of keeping Dame (at least in my mind). I was not that unhappy with the pick nor with keeping the pick and trading Dame. Because of this rationalization, I’m eating only a 1/2 serving of crow.

Now to Scoot — he’s a starting NBA point guard. He still has plenty to learn and can put himself in a bad position, BUT he has changed/grown in every aspect. He’s an average-sized PG but also seriously built with some twitch and want to. Will he become a good, lead PG? I think so. Quality? Top 15 in the League? I think so. He needs to work on being efficient.

Portland doesn’t need a PG for years to come … a back-up? Yes.
BPA is still the best pick in the draft regardless of position. It’s a rebuild in a strong draft.

So why didn't Scoot play more last night? He seemed to be having a good game.

After his putback dunk, he made a string of bad decisions/plays so he got yanked. Then Banton was playing so well that it didn’t make sense to put Scoot back in.

I thought the only good he was doing was shooting threes, 5 TO in 20 minutes. poor defense?

If you're just going from the box score, he had a decent night.

16 points off 6-13 shooting (46%) and 3-5 from three (60%) with 4 assists, 2 rebounds, and 1 steal in 20 minutes. The two warts were the turnovers (5) and the fouls (4) but honestly those numbers don't bother me because he's young. I just would like to see our young guard get some more minutes.
