<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Moo2K4:</div><div class="quote_post">Curry's health issues were behind him by the beginning of the season, otherwise I don't think he'd have gotten paid as much with as long of an offer. The reason he didn't plkay as well as you may want is because that's just who he is. He's an underachiever. Until he gets some type of work ethic during the regular season, that's all he'll ever be.</div>
Curry's health issues weren't exactly behind him. He got paid because Isiah likes him. I don't think I need to explain that one. Because of the heart conditions, Curry was advised not to do any serious basketball work and needless to say, he came into camp out of shape and rusty. This isn't anyone's fault and doesn't say anything about his work ethic either. In addition, with Brown destroying every shred of Curry's confidence, he struggled. I know criticism is a part of the game and is how players improve, but Brown was pretty excessive with his criticism. If Curry is taking out the time and making a strong effort to come into camp in shape, I think he isn't as lazy as people make him out to be. It's not like this is a contract year either, Curry is already guaranteed a large sum of money. Maybe Curry is finally turning over a new leaf and starting to step up.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting :</div><div class="quote_post">Also, even if he stays out of foul trouble, no way does his rebounds jump that high. He barely averaged 11 per 48 minutes, which by no means is that good. Most people who are good rebounders get there double figure rebounds in under 40 minutes. He barely breaks double figures in his 48minute average. He's not going to averaging anywhere near 10 anytime soon. He's just not a good enough rebounder. He doesn't have the instincts. He doesn't get in good position. He's, to put it bluntly, a horrible rebounder for someone his size.</div>
Well, Curry will be coming into shape this training camp, something he has only do once, I believe. And he put up something like 16/5. Let me address the rebounds. Playing next to Chandler, who had a breakout year and averaged about 10 rebounds in 27 minutes, Curry's rebounding wasn't really needed and obviously his rebounding numbers didn't look desirable. This is not to say Curry isn't a below average rebounder, because he is. However, that number is lower than what it should have been. The Bulls were a top rebounding team with Chandler and Davis, so looking at his indiviual numbers will be deceiving.
As for stats, I'm not going to sit here and project Curry's stats because honestly I don't have the slightest idea. But I do remember Mark Aguirre saying something like Curry lacked basic skills such as boxing out, and how to use his body. Aguirre continued saying once he learns those things Curry will be a dominant player. And who better to teach him those things than Aguirre, one of the best post players to ever play the game?
You also have to remember Isiah is coaching this team instead of Larry Brown. It was confusing for EVERY player on the court when Brown was coaching. Players struggled getting used to each other with the 42 different starting lineups. Although Curry always started when he was healthy, he couldn't adjust to any of his teammates and that's important when playing basketball. Isiah's new system will revolve around Curry and give him good looks. He said this is the same system that made Jermaine O'Neal and Brad Miller all-stars.
To put it all together, there were tons of things affecting Curry's play last year and this season will be pivotal. This will be the true measure of whether the trade was fair. So far it's looking to be in favor of the Bulls, but we'll just have to see what happens next year. I'm not saying Curry will be good nor am I saying he'll be bad. I'm saying let's wait and see.
