That’s true. The GOP and right wing media have, for a long time, conditioned their base to be ripen for the picking by a con man like Trump. Adding Trump was the last piece to give this monster life. But I don’t think the GOP establishment quite anticipated of what a monster they created. Sure, Trump gave them judges, but he’s also effectively ended their charade for the last three decades of being the party of “family values” and “fiscal responsibility.” The GOP no longer stands for anything other than what Donald Trump wants. If they try to break free from him (which I expect they will), he’ll unleash his confederacy of dunces on them. I expect there’s going to be an epic struggle within the GOP to wrest control away from Trump.
I don't know. The base still thinks they are the party of family values and fiscal responsibility. They've just redefined those words to mean the opposite of what they used to mean, and they are totally fine with that, because they were just slogans anyway.
Lots and lots of Trumpists got elected/re-elected this month, even though Trump himself didn't. Nationally, there might be some concern that Trump has taken the party off the deep end, but out in 'real america', they'll just call those people RINOs and other names. In the redder states, I imagine they'll want to erect statues of Trump in the town squares.
