Elle Leonard just posted a goodbye to Portland and it’s very good. It paints a good picture of Meyers’ and Elle’s time here in Portland and gives perspective to the other side. If you dislike what Meyers did on the court or how much he made this probably won’t do anything for you but if you care about who someone is then it’s a good read, well written and insightful.

I get that it sucks, but when you choose to work in the entertainment industry, you're opening yourself up to the good and the bad aspects of fame.

The shitty part about sports is that, unlike the movies, you get to hear all of the negative comments in person. But that's the nature of the business and they make a shit ton of money to make up for it.

I really wish she would have actually detailed why 2016-2017 was so hard for them, she mentions several times how it was so difficult and seemed to imply it was Portland, but what was it? I mean fans are awfully harsh I get that but it seems hard to follow like what in particular about that year was so hard.

This. I'd be more than happy to have the whole Rose Garden crowd boo me, if I were making 10M a year. Shit, give me a grand; and they can boo and laugh their asses off at my expense. Bring it on....

A grand? your going rate is low...
Come on now. You'ld go play with the team for one game, for 100 bucks. Right??? Lol. Any of us would. Heck, I'd pay 100 bucks to get boo'd. I have no sympathy for Meyers. Nice guy. Immature ball player....

When I was 22 and cocky enough to think I wouldn't embarrass myself... 100 though... no thanks lol.

I think it’s a reach to say this was insightful.

Meyers has detailed the issues more thoroughly than she did in this blog post.

Main takeaways:
Meyers told her he was going to the NBA, she cried, he said “just kidding, wanted to make sure you wouldn’t break up with me.”

She wasn’t a fan of Portland originally because it was the furthest NBA city away. Meyers and her began to love it. Mentions Bella once. (RIP). Chose to have wedding in PDX.

Got mad at Meyers for telling the world she was battling anxiety and depression at the same time he was.

Stopped watching Blazer games, a) husband wasn’t playing and b) because he was getting booed, although she doesn’t explicitly say this.

Mentions multiple times how Meyers always thinks of others first and not himself.

Honestly this didn’t really tell us anything we didn’t already know.

No one thought he was a bad person. Just a shitty basketball player and mentally soft. (Which this confirms. She states that he needs to be loved and coddled essentially — in no way is this comment related to anxiety/depression.)

pretty much... I mean on a human level I can empathize.

Agree about opening yourself up and it being the nature of the business. I guess where I struggle is in the way times have changed, especially with social media. People take and lob their thoughts and opinions carelessly with hateful intent across the web. Sure, it is now a part of the fame, but I'll never agree that it's right. People can be freaking horrible to each other and with the addition of anonymity, it's so much worse. I don't care how bad he played, how much his contract was, the things they were saying about him online were uncalled for in my opinion.

The internet can be pretty screwed up. The insults, threats, and such public people get the pressure and stress that could cause people is something the human race has never had deal with before.

That was the first year after he signed his big contract. That's when a lot of the real harsh criticisms started. Also I'm sure he put a lot of extra pressure on himself after he signed that big deal. Wasn't that also the year that after they fired his trainer for leaking info?

None of our issues with him had to do wit his depression or anxiety. His REACTION to it, did.

But seriously, how many summers did he come in and Mike Barrett us? "Meyers put on/lost 15 pounds of muscle/fat and is looking to dominate the league! He's taking his vitamins, saying his prayers! What yah gonna do, when his 24 inch pythons, and Meyermania RUNS WILD ON YOU? BRUTHA!"

Exactly. He had his chance here. I can't think of any other NBA player that has done pull-ups on the rim, or push-ups under it; during a game. VERY immature. For him, or Elle, to be looking for sympathy from our fan base is just flat out pathetic. They need to realize and understand, the bed that Meyers laid for himself here....

He may be a great guy, however; he has the mentality of a kid. Kids don't win championships. Men do.

My only problem with Meyers is that he took too long to develop into a useful NBA player. The way he played last season, I’d be happy having him as a 3rd option at PF/C. Before that...not so much. Smart, well spoken, good guy who would try any role he was asked, but just couldn’t develop a feel for the game until the end of his time here.

As much as I disliked Meyers the player, they (Meyers and Elle) are people and I wish them the best on their path in life. It has its pitfalls and rewards along the way. Stick with it.

I never booed meyers the person. I booed meyers the player. Remember, he himself said that basketball is not who he is.

FORUM GAME!

I found this clip on my PC the other day,
How many facepalms can you spot in this video?

Biebs "bet on himself", failed, and got paid anyway.

He's WAY overpaid, and that hurt our ability to make the team better.

He has the mentality of a jr. high school student.

He sucked for many years.

He's a good hearted guy and I like him as a person, but this adds up to me being annoyed with him, and certainly not sympathetic.

I wish him well, but am glad he's gone.
