  • SpaceX has launched Falcon Heavy, the most powerful rocket the company has ever built.
  • The rocket lifted off Tuesday from a historic Apollo-era launchpad at Kennedy Space Center in Florida, where Business Insider is on the ground.
  • Musk put his Tesla Roadster on top as a test payload.
  • The car is bound for Mars orbit, but its upper-stage rocket first has to survive about six hours of punishing radiation.
  • If deemed a full success, Falcon Heavy's launch could disrupt the launch industry and help the US military, NASA, and commercial customers.

Really cool, was reading about the launch, glad they pulled it off.

That's the stuff we should be spending our money on, not wars, walls and "illegal immigration"

Yeah, that thing is composed of nine Falcon engines I think.

That reminds me! Those guys have not called me for and interview after the application I put in for their position of Naval Architect.
Maybe I should pull the three veterans preference cards I have. But then on second thought, they want a sea going log truck to haul that shit back after launching one of these heavies. It really does not sound like that much fun to build after you think about it!

I guess I will let them slide on this one.

Gonna take a lot of space cash to hitch a ride on that one.

I bet they offer health insurance :smiley-sun:

Some of the photos from this are absolutely beautiful and quirky. A couple of the photos will be known by future generations.

Anybody from the forum buy one of Elon's flamethrowers???

That's what was on TV when flipped it on today! Was wondering why some Cash Test Dummy was heading into outer space.

The idea presented in this poster is very funny. But the idea of having nothing better to to with this mega blaster than to put a Tesla in Space is mind numbing. Did they really do this? When does the payback begin? Or is payback just too old school? Does this guy really have enough, he doesn't give a shit?

It was a test run. During test runs, NASA will usually use concrete or steel to simulate a pay load. He figured, why not use something a little more fun and eye catching than concrete. His goal is to colonize mars.
