Here's somebody I didn't realize had suddenly exploded (because he plays for the Hawks, and, well, who cares?): DeMarre Carroll. Hasn't he got to be Most Improved? It really should count extra that he's playing so well on the team with the second-best record in the league (so he's not stat-padding on a shitty team, something that should count against Andrew Wiggins in the RoY race).

There should be a Robin Lopez award for the unheralded player whose acquisition suddenly transforms a team so that all the other parts work so much better together. This year it should go to Timofey Mozgov. I always thought he should be doing better in the NBA given how he plays for Russia, and it turns out all it needed was the same coach.

Butler/Gobert/Whiteside all have a better case for most improved then Carroll.

That would be an awesome award. Should make a cancer award as well for when a team gets rid of a starter and they should get worse but instead they get better. We could call it the "Rudy Gay" Award. Id Nominate Jeff Green for it this year.

Wouldn't that award default to Josh Smith? I mean the Pistons didn't make the playoffs without him, but they were downright awful with him.

I like that idea too. Enes Kanter is also a good candidate. I'd say David Lee, but they kept him, they just realized they should never play him.

He was an early front runner, but the Rockets turned it around and the Pistons sputtered. Who knew Brandon Jennings could actually be important to his team?

Are the Jazz really doing that well since trading Kanter?

Those are all good. I guess they should break it down into separate awards:
The Joel Freeland: from total non-entity to useful rotation player. (Whiteside)
The Draymond Green: from rotation player to invaluable starter (Gobert, Carroll)
The Paul George: from starter to star (Butler has a shot here)

Lillard had good stats on a losing team and he won ROY. If I were voting, I'd vote for Elfrid Payton.

Most of the time ROY's come from shitty teams. Hence good players, drafted high on a team that's rebuilding and can give them as many minutes as they want.
