Eric Staal is coming to the Rangers

717. You are lost and are living in the past. Look at the insane number of prospects the Rangers developed over the past 10 years without tanking. Last year they developed Hayes, Miller and Fast and won the Presidents Trophy. This year they are developing Lindberg and McIlrath. They were also developing Duclair last year. Skjei a little this year. The year before that they developed Kreider and helped Pouliot break out. I think the days of Rangers prospects being over-hyped are over. There is a reason other teams continue to ask for these guys. They know the Rangers prospects are good and the Rangers are dumb and will trade them.

But Dump the last 3 years on is there window.. This is what teams do in their position, unfortunately they just haven't won..

Staal has a good 4-5y left, and being on a playoff team with his brother you know will rev him up. Oh, Eric i meant.:)

I don't know how you can say that dump when we didn't deal a 1st or our top 3 or so prospects.

Plus Staal will be much better playing with a team that actually has talent. Until this season he was good for 20 goals and 60 points every season on a terrible team with little talent. And I do think he resigns, unless it is a disaster here.

And he is very good on face-offs, something many of us have been concerned about. Moore and Staal can take many of the big FO's now.

Excited.

And BTW dump...ALL the prospects you just mentioned are still here outside of DuClair. And we have Gropp and Buch as well, and the goalies you like. None went for Staal. No 1st went for Staal.

The Rangers have 3 goalies who are top prospects in the minors. The late rounder Huska may be the best of them all. I'm not worried about they replacing Hank. Crawford is not half the goalie Hank is. Neither was Cam Ward. Or Fleury. Or Tim Thomas. Quick is good but he's not as good as Hank. Teams win cups. Not the best goalie in the league. If Hasek couldn't win until he was a relic, that should tell you something.

Not if you are in charge Chuck. With your dumb thinking, you'll trade them also. You sucked off the St. Louis deal. It was a complete failure in the end. You sucked off the Yandle deal which has been a complete failure so far. Now you are sucking off this deal. Yet, you still can't grasp what is wrong with your thinking and the organizations.

No, not the past. I'm living in the now which exactly where this current team is. They have a few prime years left with the greatest goalie in franchise history and the time to win is now. Not 5-7 years from now when the entire makeup of the team will be different.

The Rangers usually do better drafting in the 3rd round and beyond anyway.

If you can dismiss Lundy that easily there's really no reasonable debate or conversation to have. Give the Rangers Crosby and Malkin and then maybe your point about the Fleury's of the world will hold some water.

What? You loved those deals dump. I was in the middle on the MSL deal. I liked the Yandle deal. You were the biggest fan on the board of the deals...until you flipped...which is fine but please don't act like it never happened dump.

Anyway...all good. I love the trade. We didn't give up a ton. We kept all of our roster players and our top top prospects. We didn't deal a 1st, which was off limits to me. So I am happy.

You can be miserable...all good bro.

Before people start saying E Staal is in serious decline go look at what he has to play with in Carolina

Currently nobody on that team even has FORTY points.

Last year 1 other player had 45 points

It's been a garbage offensive team for years.

He will play well here

It's always the same crap here. Every time the Rangers make a rental deal. "Great deal! Go for it now!" One cup in 74 years with that stupid mentality. Close the thread.

I don't think any of those deals were failures. In the finals if Girardi isn't a complete moron like he is half the time and Kreider can actually make a move they probably win the whole thing and last year they got stage fright on home ice in game 7.

I agree Dis. And like I mentioned, up until this season Staal has been good for 20/60 every year.

He is a big add, the best player moved thus far hands down, and we got him without giving up a 1st, a roster player, or one of our top 3 or 4 prospects.

Not much else to say. Close the thread.

Yeah they lost 2 years ago in Finals cuz Nash was terrible. Last year they lost cuz Zuc and McDonough got hurt and StLouis 2 years removed from a scoring title turned 80 years old overnight.

At least they are trying to win a cup

Should of, could of..... The deals were failures. In the end, they accomplished nothing but making the future of the team worse. They just made another one of those deals.

Staal has three points in the last five games and 159 shots on goal this season, more than any Ranger, and his possession metrics are high. When he is on the ice, his team controls the puck 57 percent of the time, one of the best individual stats in the league.

Good stat on a terrible team.

Yup. And his shooting percentage is super low which is mostly based on luck for skilled players.

His corsi stars are top 5 NHL

Which means put him on a line with Stepan and Nash and watch out. Backed up by Miller or Kreider/Brass/Zucc. Backed up by Miller or Kreider/Hayes/Fast or Stalberg.

I don't go crazy for those advanced metrics #'s, but it is clear to see the Canes had very little talent, and yet Staal was still 20/60 every season until this one. Put him with good players, and his metrics say he will be very good again.

I say again...this is the best player traded at the trade DL this season, and we got him.

Awesome stuff.

Wonder if we add either a depth dman or 4th line PK pest type of player. Gorton said we might add one more small salaried player.

They added a great player.. Show him around the outter NYC south western CT area (since he has a family) and I see no reason why he doesn't resign here

I wouldn't mind them going after Boyes or Campbell with that last 1m.

I don't see this one...but:

The Rangers reportedly have interest in Brandon Pirri. (Lawless)

Pirri has a cap hit of $925,000.

Hrivik also sent down. Makes sense.

No, I never loved those deals Chuck. Now you're just being a lying dumbass. I stated they badly overpaid in both those deals. I couldn't believe they gave up two first round picks for St. Louis when Tampa had NO LEVERAGE. I was stunned they gave up Duclair. Though, I'm not sold on him defensively going forward. I still was shocked they gave him up.

Exactly how will he resign here Chuck when the team doesn't have cap room to sign Yandle?

Okay dump...you never loved those deals. I won't bother to bump the posts again like I did a few months back. All good man.

Anyway...face-offs just got a big bump also.

Moore is winning 56% of his FO's. Staal is winning 54% of his FO's. And Brass is winning 51% of his FO's.

We shouldn't have to complain about FO's anymore, and that is a plus.

If we can get this darn PK going we'll be in great shape.

Yandle was the best player traded last year at the trading deadline also. How did that turn out? I was also wondering how they are going to resign Staal if they are up against the cap. I guess they think they can unload Nash in the offseason.

He was up there, BUT we gave up way more for Yandle than we did for Staal, and it isn't close actually. A 1st a 2nd and DuClair and Moore. And to me Staal is a better player than Yandle as well, especially on a team where he is being used as a 3rd pair LD.

PLUS we now have them both for this run...which makes us much better. With MSL falling apart Yandle wasn't enough. This team right now is no doubt better equipped to make a run then last seasons team even if last season they won the Pres trophy.

This team is deep upfront and on D, has real size upfront, is deep at C, can win FO's, and of course has Hank in goal.

On paper, of course they are much better team than yesterday but just think how many guys like E.Staal expensive stars on a decline have played for this team in the last 15 years. We have zero cups. It is hard to get excited. :beatinto:

Not surprised by that Step, you are who you are. That is business as usual...so all good man. It must be tough being a fan like you...never happy always complaining about something. Not knocking you, you do you, but it must be tough man...:).

And they are not just a better team than yesterday, they are a better team than last season IMO. That's my point. Much bigger and deeper.

We'll see how it goes, because even though we are better the Caps are much better, so that series will still be an uphill climb. It is more winnable today than yesterday, but we are still the underdog...assuming we get past the Isles of course.
