Damn, Knicks get Dampier, and looks like we get Vlad "The Flopper" Divac. Well, its better than nothing. We need a big man. I was really hoping the Lakers would deal for Dampier.

But anyway I can easily see this being a future flop for the Knicks. I think its bad to invest that type of money for so long,for a guy who in his previous 7 season before last year averaged double-digit scoring just 1 time. And has never shown the effort on the boards that he showed last year in his contract season. And lets not talk about how many games he has missed over his 8 seasons. If Dampier is the one season fluke I think he is, Knicks fans will be asking for Thomas' head in 2 to 3 seasons for fighting so hard,and wanting to take on this contract & pay this guy this type of money.

Dampier was the only center who could guard Shaq straight up last season. If my memory serves me correctly, he posted two 20/20 games against Shaq last season. With Shaq heading East to Miami, this was a great pickup for you. Now the questions are:

1. Will he perform at a high level in a noncontract year?
2. Can he stay healthy?

I don't see Damp getting a bigger deal from Atlanta than the reported deal with you guys.

I've been one of Damp's biggest fans the last few years and have watched him very closely. I can honestly tell you that the biggest misconception about Damp is that he only plays hard in contract years. The truth is that he always plays hard when he gets consistent touches in the post.

The two years before last year, there were a lot of ball hogs on the Warriors, like Jamison, Arenas, and Fortson. None of them kept Damp involved on offense and basically just wanted him to play defense and rebound. But any big man at any level will tell you that he needs to get the ball down low a few times a game to keep him motivated to do all the dirty work. When Robinson and Van Exel came to the Warriors, they knew they had to keep Damp involved, and Damp responded with a monster season.

As I see it, the best case scenario would be if Marbury, Houston, and Thomas give Damp 8-10 touches in the post each game. Damp should replicate the season he had with the Warriors last year, and NY should have the third best inside/outside combination in the East behind Indiana and Miami.

But the worst case scenario is if Damp doesn't get his touches and starts to sulk. You'll see a lot of games where Damp will get frustrated, pick up two quick fouls in the first few minutes and head to the bench. Damp is also VERY sensitive, so if that happens and the NY media jumps on him, the situation could get real bad real quick.

I'll bet Damp will be a success in NY if he can deal with the media and he gets his touches each game.

First: Do not believe anything the post says. I have been reading the post for a few years, and I will tell from experiance that they make things up at at least once a month. The biggest proof of my point is thier spectulation that John Kerry would pick Gephart. On the front page and many pages after that the post said that Kerry was going to pick Gephart. What happen? Kerry picked Edwards.

Second: It would be a terrible trade for the Knicks because, once again, they lock in more salary. They are already running wages of almost 100 Million. If the Knicks get Dampier, they will lose flexability in the future, and very likely will not have the player that they dreamed of because of what Henacy said.

You're right Hagrid, sorry about that, just got a little too excited about it.

Well time to analyze!
The following analysis is based on the assumption that the Knicks will close the deal.


If the Knicks get Dampier alone we will definently acquire another player this off-season. Be it Crawford, Walker or Carter, they're all on the board. I see the Crawford trade happening with the extraction of Moochie which is something Isiah will soften up to. Perhaps Chicago will let it go and take Moochie, no one knows for sure.

This trade is an indication from Isiah to all the knowledgable Knicks fans that there will be another big move. Isiah will acquire another ballplayer this off-season the question is which one, it will probably be a backcourt player. I read that if we can't get Carter or Crawford that we may get Rodney White.

Isiah is building the necessary foundation for a strong competitor. We all know that the two anchor positions in basketball are the PG and C. By bringing in Dampier we know have stability in both anchor positions, allowing us to tweak the other three to compliment the 1 and the 5. Now that we have added a new dimension into our team we can have the 2,3 and the 4 play their games rather than force them to alter their play to the needs of the team as they had to when we had a weaker center in Mohammed.

This trade is good for us in the short-term, but it may hurt us in the long-term for very obvious reasons (age and about 30 other things).

Damp is a solid player,but some people say he only played good in the 03-04 season because it was his contract year.

I think that he will be a positive addidtion if he can stay healthy because he isnt in his young days any more I think that if he can but up 12 and 12 in the west, then he has a chance to put up better numbers in the east,but will see when the season starts.

Its funny how its only been a couple months into the offseason and Mullin is already considered an idiot reject..I think not..
Wait and see where the team is next season before you critisize the moves he's made.
Foyle is a hard working good hearted player who will give his 100% every night..the only reason he hasnt put up alot of numbers is his playing time..check out his stats when he actually gets playing time..not bad

Mullin's moves have not been very impressive at all, what kind of GM spends 8 million a season on a center that would be a back-up on most of the teams in the NBA. 2-3 million would be considered an ok offer to Foyle but 40 million? c'mon now. Thats a Scott Layden signing

spending 80 million on Fisher and Foyle is such a terrible move, two decent role players at best. They aren't difference makers at all,. GS have completely wasted their money on two very average players who won't take the Warriors over the top and now Mullin is thinking about trading NVE for Dale Davis? It keeps getting worse

Whats next? Jason Richardson for Byron Russell?

Not everyone can be a very good player and a good GM.

ATLANTA -- Golden State center Erick Dampier met with Atlanta Hawks general manager Billy Knight and new coach Mike Woodson on Monday in Salt Lake City, where the Hawks' summer league is playing.

But the free agent is unlikely to settle in Atlanta, ESPN's David Aldridge reports.

Dampier, a 6-foot-11 center who averaged 12.3 points and 12 rebounds last season, is weighing interest from the Hawks against a sign-and-trade offer from the New York Knicks.

According to Aldridge, it is unlikely that Dampier would accept Atlanta's offer, which is approximately $1 million less per season than what the Knicks offered to him.

The Knicks have structured a sign-and-trade deal with the Warriors that would have Golden State sign Dampier to a six-year contract, starting at $9 million per season, and then trade him to New York for forwards Nazr Mohammed and Othella Harrington.

Dampier, 29, opted out of the last two years of his contract to become a free agent, leaving more than $16 million on the table. He is coming off the most productive season in his eight-year career -- averaging a double-double while also blocking 1.85 shots in 32.5 minutes per game.

Dampier ranked fourth in the league in rebounding and seventh with 42 double-doubles. He has hired a new agent, Dan Fegan, who is based in Los Angeles.

How did NY have 1 mil more to offer him? Was there a trade kicker % upgrade in there if he did a S&T? I thought ATL was loaded from a cap standpoint and had more money to offer?

Atlanta did have more to offer but weren't willing to offer more years. NY offered a 6 year deal with 12% raises which would equal out to about $65, however because It would be a sign and trade the Knicks could change the year length to 7 years which would mean he would get a HUGE 76 million over 7 seasons.

The Hawks are 11.4 million under the salary cap, If they are willing to add the contract offer to 6 years, Damp would get 74 million over 6 years

Now If that suddenly happens then Isiah knows he has no real shot at signing him. Atlanta would be offering 9 million more.

I expect though, when It's all said and done...Dampier will go to the Knicks and get 65 million over 6 years.

Thats great for the knicks now they have a good center to play at that postion sure mutombo is good, but he is payed to much money and is aging. Now they have a gy that averaged a double double and isnt a liability on the transition game like mutombo was in there series vs the new jersey nets last season.

Also it provides them with something they always needed rebounds before last season when they sort of improved at that me and my friend would always say you know why the knicks dont win because they watch the guy shoot the ball and just start running back down court instead of tring for the rebound. Dampier will change all that for them. If last year wasnt just because of a contract year he played well.
