Sheed was the centerpiece to a team that was contending for a title. LA isn't on his level right now.

Roy and LA haven't done enough to make it, yet.

I don't think a teams success is any way to judge the talent of an individual player. You surround LA with that same squad and you think they wouldn't be as successful? You put Brian Grant, Sabas, Pip, Damon, Greg Anthony, Jimmy Jackson, Rider, etc etc etc with LaMarcus and you think they wouldn't be as good?!?

I don't think so. Sheed was a threat from three but was also a bigtime low-post threat.

Brother, you are talking to one of the biggest Sheed fans in the world........ but he was NO more of a threat on the low block then LA is! Their games are very similar.

Bill Walton
Rasheed Wallace
Scottie Pippen
Clyde Drexler
Terry Porter

I love that these are options:

PG: Damon Stoudamire
SG: Jim Paxson
SF: Scottie Pippen
PF: Zach Randolph
C: Clifford Robinson

Pippen's head explodes.

Wallace was significantly better in the post, IMO. He didn't play in the paint as much as some wanted, but he had a better array of moves than Aldridge. In addition, Wallace was easily the superior defender. I actually consider Aldridge a solid/above average defender, but I felt Wallace was one of the best defensive big men in the league during his prime.

After spending time with Damon, Zach, and Cliff, Pippen would be too "mellow" to care. :smokeone:

^^^ Wow LMA is closer than I thought to topping Sheed. Two years time no doubt. Rebs surprisingly close

Agreed, Wallace was a way superior defender and his post game was a thing of beauty. He was graceful at using the backboard, Tim Duncan picked it up and uses it to his advantage now. The thing that made Sheed such a great defender were his long arms and ability to use his body to bump guys when they were posting up. Funny thing is, Sheed never wanted to be great though, he never picked up a weight and was always fined by the team for it.

Nice comparison. Stunning how close they were statistically.

Sheed was a better defender and post scorer by the time he was 26. But the striking thing about that comparison is that Aldridge is two years younger. Was Sheed much better of a defender in the 98-99 season (when he was 24) than Aldridge was last year? I don't really remember. I do remember Brian Grant doing more of the dirty work on defense back then.

Anyway, overall Sheed definitely had more intangibles than Aldridge, both good and bad. Better defender, more unstoppable scorer. But also more of a hothead who could derail the team's focus, draw technicals, annoy the fanbase, and more likely to fight with his coach. It's difficult to say if Sheed's positive intangibles outweighed his negative intangibles, but they both were numerous.

Aldridge mostly just shows up for work, does his job, and goes home. No intangibles (good or bad). You know what you're getting from him. If the coach tells him to go in the post, he seems to do that. No drama. There's some value in that, especially on a very young team.

I'm a huge Sheed fan, but yeah, I can see a decent argument to be made for saying that if you take EVERYTHING into account, Aldridge is a better fit for this team.
