The thing that you never seem to quite get is that the Blazers' number one objective isn't making the playoffs this year; it's putting the team in the best position to contend for multiple titles 2-3 years down the road. If they can find a trade before the deadline that helps achieve that AND helps make the playoffs this year, so much the better. Just making a trade to increase the odds of making the playoffs this year, but at the expense of the team's longer term chances, IMO, isn't going to happen.

That's true to some degree, but the team did publicly put making the playoffs as the primary goal for this season.

Sure, it's a major goal, but not at the expense of the bigger picture of where the team will be when Oden, Aldridge, & Roy get to the top of their games in 2-3 years. Making the playoffs this year is a big step and it would give the team valuable experience, but nobody reasonably expects them to do more than maybe at best get out of the first round. Compare that to positioning for a long run at multiple titles and I think you'll agree that any trade now has to fit with that objective or it's best to pass on it.

I'm guessing Pritchard won't be getting much sleep tonight.

Neither will Thorn. KP has the west coast advantage here in trade discussions. Maybe he can wear down Thorn deep into the night and get him to commit to something as he becomes delusional from lack of sleep.

Hmmm.... I really wonder how accurate some of these rumors are.

We turned down Wallace and Nazr for Raef and ??

I don't believe it. Who cares if we have to take back Nazr.... you get Wallace, so you do it.

I think the cats want Batum, too.

According to media reports, the Blazers could have Carter or Wallace, the holdup is asking for a pick from the Nets or not taking a (sorta) bad contract from the Bobcats. This all sounds too good to be true. What next, CP3 is available for RLEC, Sergio, and Outlaw but KP doesn't want to give up a 2nd rounder?

Who knows what the Hornets are about to offer before the deadline now that the Chandler trade was rescinded.

:smiley-drool: Whoa! Those are some hot deals right there! Maybe too hot- they don't sound realistic, but I'll be ecstatic if one of these deals go through. For once, we might actually get steal of a deal that didn't happen on draft day.

It's gonna be like Christmas tomorrow morning. I hope we don't get a lump of coal.

Yep, if KP is smart he's calling the Hornets and offering to solve their financial woes.

"C'mon baby...do the deal. You know you want some of this...you need it...."

KP: pusher of Allen's money.

I know it isn't happening. I know there's no possible way of it happening. If KP somehow got Chris Paul from the Hornets without giving up Roy, Aldridge, or Oden............ you would see this all over again:

It is possible. You just have to believe. Close your eyes and click your heels together, and repeat after me. There's no PG like Chris Paul. There's no PG like Chris Paul. There's no PG like Chris Paul.

Look, it's not a coincidence that KP is from Kansas. He is Dorothy.

badass.

Not only do the Blazers get by far the best player out of that deal, KP has the balls to ask for a potential high lottery pick.

I love KP.

Sorry to burst your bubble dude:

The pick is lottery protected for 2011, so the Nets get it if the Warriors are in the playoffs. If it goes to 2012, the pick is protected 1-11. It’s protected 1-10 for 2013.

If it is not conveyed by 2013, the Nets get second-round picks in 2013 and 2015.

It's about time for an update on the good old ESPN Roundup...

11hrs and 59 minutes remain until deadline.

Please get me G. Wallace or R. Jefferson. I would be thankful for either.

The only way that is even remotely possible is if the Hornets are in big time finincial trouble (and I mean on the verge of going broke) I know they are strapped, but I don't think they are in dire straights/chapter 11 just yet.

You just don't trade away a top 5 player in the league to get rid of a bad contract, unless you get something great in return (especially when you are 32-20 and in the thick of things) We would have to give them one of our big guns back. Let's do the math. They aren't getting Roy (what would be the point in swapping Roy for Paul?) they don't need Lamarcus (they have West), and that leaves . . . Oden. I would trade RLEC, Oden, etc. for Paul and Chandler (or Paul and Peja for that matter)
