So, I'm up here in Seattle with my GF, chillin' out and enjoying the holiday weekend.
Anyway, on Thanksgiving Day, we went to some friends of hers for dinner, football, and fun. While there, the host and his brother were telling me about an NFL confidence league they are part of.
At first, I'm thinking, "Hmmmm....confidence league? Is this some type of scam or Ponzi scheme?
) Actually, though, as they began to describe it to me, sounded pretty cool.
Their particular league is ran by CBSSports.com. On the side, they each put in, like, $51 prior to the season's start. What it pretty much boils down to is: Each week, you pick the (literal..that is, no point spreads are involved) winners and losers. You place a "confidence" value on each game. In other words, if, say, the Packers were hosting the Colts, you might choose the Packers and use that game with your highest confidence value of 16. The remaining games would then have value numbers (15 being the next highest....on down. You can't use any confidence value more than once.) When you've picked correctly, you receive the point value you've assigned to that particular game.....and so on.
Whoever has the highest point value at the end of the day wins that week. If you win any given week, you pretty much get your investment back. There's also an end-of-the-season payoff structure, as well.
There are a number of other factors and nuances, but that is the crux of it. They have about 20 guys and gals in their group. If I'm interested, they want me to get involved with the group next season.
Sounds like fun.
