Facebook announced Thursday afternoon that it had designated some high-profile people, including Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, who's notorious for using anti-Semitic language, and right-wing conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, as "dangerous" and said it will be purging them from its platforms.

Jones and his media outlet InfoWars had previously been banned from Facebook (FB) in August 2018, but had maintained a presence on Instagram, which is owned by Facebook. On Thursday, Jones and InfoWars will be barred from Instagram as well.
Other people banned on Thursday included Paul Nehlen, an anti-Semite who unsuccessfully ran for Congress in 2016 and 2018, and fringe right-wing media personalities Laura Loomer, Milo Yiannopoulos and Paul Joseph Watson.

"We've always banned individuals or organizations that promote or engage in violence and hate, regardless of ideology," a Facebook spokesperson said in a statement provided to CNN Business. "The process for evaluating potential violators is extensive and it is what led us to our decision to remove these accounts today."

About time for Louis Farrakhan, but Milo? Never saw him threatening anyone.

The others, I never paid attention.

Then it's OK for Russian companies to buy ads on Facebook?

I don't like it, but would you really support making it illegal? Just to be clear, I am glad Jones et al got the ban-hammer...but I wouldn't support a law making it mandatory to ban them.

Facebook continues to amplify just how politically-biased their moderating truly is.

Banning only far-right and center-right media figures, and zero far-left and center-left hate-stokers.

Suggestions:

Rep. Ilhan Omar

Rep. Tlaib

Sen. Maxine Waters

Robert "D-for-Dementia" Niro

Rachel Madcow

"Sour" Don Lemon

I've heard all these people call for citizens to commit violence in the name of hate. :tsktsk:

My comment is more tounge in cheek. I could care less if FB regulates or doesn't. It is censorship, and we are headed down a dark path, yet people seem to be celebrating.

Their choice to ban these people. My choice to stay off of Facebook and Instagram.

I do feel safer already though. Milo and Farrakhan were bound to team up for evil deeds one day.

I went on FB for a couple days maybe 6 years ago. It didn't take long to find, I did not want any part of that operation. The bad news came next, when you can't
really totally extract yourself from the thing.

Paul joseph watson seems harmless
I've seen this guy off and on for quite some time. Guess I missed the Nazi stuff he posted. Fuck Facebook.

It is Facebook's right to ban anyone they want and it's everyone else's right to boycott them.

I'm sure the people who were banned are now boycotting facebook.

By being politically selective in banning only certain conservatives under the guise of "hate-speech", a non-descriptor of a nonexistent Crime category, FB proves it is a political propaganda organization subject to all financial disclosures and limits under Federal Election Laws. Since it knowingly conspires with advertisers in formulating it's politically-motivated bans, messages, ads, and misuse of personal information, it is also subject to provisions of the RICO act.

If Zuckerburg wasn't already working for the CIA he'd die in prison.

had reexamined their activities outside of Facebook, the company said.

^^^^^^^^ That part is awesome. The WaPo corrected their original "Farrakhan is far right" garbage at least
