I did a little refreshing of history a couple nights ago, remembering Thomas Jefferson had considerable trouble with the press.
But while he bitch like hell about it, he didn't think any laws should be passed by the Federal government to correct the situation.
He explained that the protection provided in the 1st amendment must remain and any correction of the press must be done by the States, not the Federal government.
States have the power to address slander, sedition, and seditious slander.
But fast forward to this day. The media of today verses the press of yesterday is not under the control of any State. So no authority has jurisdiction over the media
to insure they do not commit offenses that are beyond the protections intended in the 1st amendment.
Trump is the first guy bigger than they can't reach (so far), the first big enough to play their slanderous game.
