What's done is done, but if McGowan had consulted you three days ago, what would you have told him you'd prefer as a fan? Retain the long-time team, or bring in the bigger name along with a color guy of his choosing?

I would have said: "Who is Kevin Calabro? Never heard of him. Is he any good?"

If I was asked before hand I probably would have voted too close to call. I would have been too sentimental. It is the reason why I prefer sales instead of management. I hated firing people. (Unless they pissed me off)

I liked mike and mike, but Calabro is one of the best around... it's a no brainer.

What this question illustrates to me is how difficult it is to make a decision like this, to terminate the team's long-time announcers. Especially if you aren't sure who will actually replace them.

I suspect most randomly polled fans would have stuck with their comfort zone (the Mikes) rather than hire someone new, even if they knew who the replacements were, and especially if they didn't. Add to that the fact that most fans probably didn't really know Calabro, let alone other possible candidates for replacing the Mikes, and I think if it were up to the fans, this change would certainly not have happened.

Heck, a week ago I probably would have said no. Today, I'm basically won over that this is an improvement and perhaps even necessary, pending the result of who they hire as the color commentator. There are a lot of names who have been tossed around that would thoroughly piss me off, and a few I'd like a lot. So, IDK.

I think if you had told me a week ago, that we had a chance to replace the Mikes with Calabro and Barry, and given me a week to mull it over, I would have ultimately said pull the trigger.

If you had told be we were going to fire the Mikes but didn't have replacements lined up, and Paul Allen and McGowan were going to figure it out later, I'd have said no fucking way do I trust those guys. ;)

Neither is my truck but man I need an upgrade...and I've loved that truck for 16 years

Got you beat. Mine's 18 years old, but its still in great shape and I know it would cost me a lot more than I could get for it to replace it with anything comparable.

Mine's actually 28 years old....I've just been it's caregiver for the last 16

Bought mine new in 1998. Paid cash. Got my money's worth out of it about twelve years ago. At this point, it's basically free transportation. A working truck always has some minimum value based strictly on utility. It's good to have one around when you need it.

How about "I didn't like them going but Calabro is a good choice and I will give him time. Plus if the games are on tv with the new contract, I'm happy"

Mine is a 1988 Dodge Ram50..4 cylinder...paid 1000 bucks for it in 2000..I definitely got my money out of it...just tuned it up and hell...it might last another 10 years

Anyone that played Inside Drive on the original Xbox knows you go with Calabro. Best commentary in an NBA game ever. If you hit a jumper you might get an enthusiastic "nice jimmy!"

I'm sure you also know that when the sample size is small, the results are more likely to be negative. People are more likely to respond when they are dissatisfied than when they are happy. An angry customer is more vocal and more likely to take action than one who is satisfied and content.

Even given that, the poll results continue to run > 2:1 in favor of firing the Mikes and hiring Calabro.

I'm not sure it's so much in favor of firing Mike and Mike and hiring Calabro, as much as it is accepting that they replaced them with Kevin.

To me, it's like keeping a perfectly fine CRT tv vs replacing it with a much nicer 4k flat screen.

Yeah, the TV works. In fact, it works good and you're used to it. But once you see the 4k tv, you realize it wasn't as nice as you remember.

Would you be fine with the CRT TV? Yeah. But since you upgraded, it's not so horrible that you lost the old one.

Good point and good analogy.

Also, the survey was made after the fact. So, it isn't people are voting for firing the Mikes. It's already a done deal. It's more like: ok, now that they've been fired, do you wish we would have kept them, or are you cool with the new guy?

You can take this one step further and say that with the old tv it was tougher having game parties, because everyone preferred going to joe smiths house to watch it on his 4k tv, even though his place wasn't the best place with regards to comfort. But since I had already upgraded my kitchen and my couch, and now my tv,... man, EVERYONE wants to hang at my place.

Keep the Mikes; dump McGowan and "Tone"
I like Tone. I mean, he seems like a really nice and great guy. But yeah, he was never really cut out for the job. I will give him props for improvement though. He was an absolute stuttering nonsensical mess during his first season. He improved to "listenable" before the end. I wish him the best though, really.
