What's good to go to celebrate. nothing too stuffy but fun and memorable with good booze and food.

Always have a good time at the Rheinlander on Sandy. I really like their authentic German food.

I am not a beer drinker, but I can not get out of there without trying a few of their great beers on tap. Very good service, combined with a song or two. Never felt I paid too much like some other A list restaurants.

Watch, these crackers are going to say Chilis and The Olive Garden!

Do it soon, before it gets shut down.

Shutting down? What’s going on? It can’t be from lack of business.

I just eat there couple of months ago with out of town friends. The place was packed.

Is Horst Mager's (original owner/master chef) daughter that now owns it finally retiring? Believe the Rheinlander restaurant has been in business for about 50 years, and still uses Horst's original recipes.

I usually have a great time celebrating Oktoberfest at Oaks Park. There's plenty of German food and beer to choose from.

While local food snobs tend to look down on The Matador for some reason, the wife and I really enjoy it. And we're pretty picky. The food is always consistently good, the drinks are excellent and the waitresses cute and friendly. Usually more than a few attractive unaccompanied ladies also. Plus both locations are nice venues. A great place to hang out, munch and drink. Not overly fancy but very nice.

The Ripcityboy Breakfast Experience!

1. (a) Buy overpriced ticket to white blues/punk/classic rock band with fat bearded lead singer.

1. (b) Put on leather belt, ultra tight AC/DC T-shirt, gutter punk jacket with Joe Strummer Button on the collar.

2. Have friend drive you to downtown PDX an hour before gig to find parking. Spend as much pre-gig time at possible at local water hole. (Jack and Cokes & Makers mark)

3. Go to gig and buy more overpriced alcohol while moshing and jumping for three hours.

4. Meet other concert goers outside of gig and hot box in their car for half an hour.

5. Walk around downtown PDX with straight edged friend who thinks you're an Ahole and try to find his car.

6. Go to his cramped apt. and get a five hours sleep while cat sits in head.

7. Head over to Original Hotcake House on Powell and wolf down on pankcakes and hot grits!

So tell me..... Are You Experienced!!! :headbang:

Rheinlander definitely. Make sure to get the cheese fondue too. Awesome.....

Nothing confirmed, but it's a possibility.

That terrible. My family is German and weve been going there for decades. Shit. I was three I think when I went there. Gustav's is owned by the same guy but I don't like the menu as much. It's hard to find good German beer. Unless you find a good import place that specializes in it.
The generic stuff they have in places like Fred Meyers is pig swill.

I like Guinness, Grolsh, Ching Tao and most local microbrews...I can drink Heiniken....I guess Grolsh is technically Pilsner though

If you want good German beer, you can go to Stammtisch in SE, or Prost in N Portland. They always have a great tap list.

Yeab. I'll check them out. I usually go to St Johns Market or OC Beer Supply since I lIve in the South Metro area. At least for just buying stuff for home. I don't really like the lighter Pilsners but really go for the darker german Dunkel-style lager.

I would definitely recommend either of those places then, depending on what is closer to you and easier to get to. They have the same owner. I prefer Stammtisch, but that is more for the vibe than anything else. I also think the food at Stammtisch hits the mark a little better.

Everyone knows the best Oktoberfest is in Mt. Angel

That's incorrect. You will need to go to Munich if you want to partake in the best Oktoberfest celebration. I went with dad while he was stationed in Germany for a couple of years.

The only other celebration I recommend is China's New Year and Lantern Festival.

Of course, you'll need to travel internationally to experience and understand the true meaning of both celebrations!

I was going for local lol but going to Germany is on my bucket list, going to Oktoberfest in Munich has to be fantastic.

HOWEVER, from SEPT 15-18 I recommend the Mt. Angel one, also... Try out the Fish taco stand. I know, it's blasphemy to get that at a German festival but damn they are good lol

I dunno about Oktoberfest. I'd probably be only to drink shitloads of beer for one day. I missed it in Munich by a week a few years ago. Went by the hofbrauhaus though which was fun.

Rhinelanders is a good time. I also love Saylers. I've never actually been to Ringside. Dunno 40th bday is coming up and might do a nice dinner somewhere but want it to be an institution.

Holy shit I love that place.... 24oz ribeye for my fat ass please!

I remember a few years ago hit up Golden Crown in Beaverton which is dope and retro

Urban Farmer, has a sweet library with pool table, fun room to drink whisky in before dinner - then departure afterwards is fun on a summer night overlooking pioneer square.

Ringside is my go to place for celebration. I might like the Fish House better than the Steakhouse as well.
