I am a vet of that war and I worked the propaganda machine from the Nixon administration as a radioman on the comm station of the amphibious fleet's flag ship....Nixon is way above Johnson in my estimation as a president who was a crook and hid war stats from the media to fuel his voter base and the profits of war. Hoover who was Nixon's buddy in my view caused the assassinations of John Kennedy, Bobby Kennedy and Martin Luther King as well as Fred Hampton and Malcom X......Trump actually tried to use militia groups to overthrow democracy.....your list is pretty far off from my list of bad guy American leaders.....I don't think Johnson had clean hands but he did let his Texan arms dealer buddies get mega rich from the arms dealer game....Hoover was the most evil guy in DC we've probably ever seen ....Trump just wasn't that bright to begin with. Trump is purely a traitor to the nation....Joe Biden shouldn't be anywhere near that list....Joe's big crime is purely being a career politician who should have retired long ago

Nixon was actually a Navy vet who was in charge of a supply depot in Bougainville in 1944. He and his mates were attacked strafed and bombed by the Japanese for 30 straight days. It did have a profound effect upon his decision to bomb Hanoi. He was well liked. He set up " Nix's Burger shack" which he gave his buddies Burgers and Beer as a morale booster. Regarding Hoover: He was a viper who ordered surveillance of Americans. Most notably, he despised John Lennon, Jim Morrison and Jimi Hendrix. What a worm!

Can you guys name the US presidents that actually served in our military from WW2 onwards??

Robert Kennedy couldn't stand LBJ but John gave in and ask LBJ to join the ticket, because he need the southern vote. LBJ also encourage JFK to promote civil rights and buddy up with MLK. That changed the course of the democratic party.

LBJ was also rude. He would give interviews while he sat on a toilet. He was the only president that had an amphib car. Drive it or run the vehicle as a boat.

Would love to hear more from you about this. I've always been fascinated with JFK and politics of that era...

I don't know why Hoover has never been more of a suspect in my mind. But seeing him listed as possibly being involved in all of those assassinations got my mind going. Dude was evil, for sure.

He took shits with the door open during cabinet meetings and once whipped out his Johnson on his ranch and pissed on a secret service agent.

Oh, he was an asshole, probably the biggest to sit in the oval office. Plus he caused a lot of death by backing contractors instead of accepting the logical conclusion that Vietnam was unwinnable. He's still probably not in the worst 5 though. He did sign the civil rights bill among other accomplishments.

He's probably in the bottom 10-15.

Bobby was going to win

Is the question about presidents since WWII or military service since WWII?

Carter served, I know. Ford? I think Bush I.
Truman and Eisenhower , Kennedy, Nixon, Reagan, both Bush's and Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter for sure...Johnson served two months in WWII as a Naval inspector then became a congressman I believe...his military service was short.....but one could argue that every president has served as Commander and Chief of the armed forces so literally all of them have served at the top

The office of the President is not part of the military although it has the power to direct the military.

A Commander in Chief with the nuke codes is an integral part of the military Lanny....we're not talking about legislative and executive branches of govt...the president in essence is the top dog in the military pecking order....even McNamara had to run things by Nixon....

I can:

All of FDR's son's served, and FDR was undersecretary of the Navy in WWI. Eisenhower led all troops and organized D-Day. His VP Nixon also served. JFK served - on PT 109 famously. LBJ served in the Navy. Nixon, as indicated, served. Ford served in the Navy. Jimmy Carter served in the Navy. Reagan served, but not in combat - propaganda movies and radio. Bush Sr. was a war hero - youngest pilot in the Navy, shot down, survived.

After that, presidents were too young, and Korea and Vietnam were different. Clinton avoided the draft. W did too. Obama had no where to serve. Trump got a medical exemption. Biden got 5 deferments, but Beau Biden sure did serve.

Disagree. We famously have a civilian in charge of the military - the president. He or she is not a "military man" and has no rank, other than Commander in Chief. But what distinguishes our military is civilian control.

Bush Jr. enrolled in the Air National Guard during Vietnam but went AWOL, without repercussion, btw.

He was a stone alcoholic in those days...daddy cleaned it up for him but he did serve in the military in a puppet sort of way....he went to college the same way...drank his way through it....Lyndon Johnson served two months only in the Navy and went into govt Bush did get his pilot wings in the service.

Sure, the President is the top dog of the military but he is ezplicitly not part of the military. He has not military rank and has no uniform. He is not an officer that rises in rank or is approved for his role by Congress. Hence, by the Constitution he is not part of the military. Again he gets his rank by a vote of the people and no other way.

Alaska will try something completely new in the fall election (yahoo.com)

"There will be no party primary in the new system. All candidates of all parties will run against one another in the Aug. 16 primary contest. The primary will not be a ranked-choice election. The top four vote getters will proceed to the Nov. 8 general election, a new system known as “final four” voting."

IMO: This is the right system as it is based on the candidate rather than the party.

We disagree....Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces it the head of the military....does 't matter how he got there...he also gets to put generals and officers he chooses in command positions....no uniform has nothing to do with it but Eisenhower had plenty of uniforms....and military decorations....not saying a civilian couldn't get the job with prior military service...but if they do get the job they're part of the military chain of command...that's just part of their job description though. George Washington, Ike and Grant went from being top generals to president straight from the military as well.

I have zero interest in the guy...don't waste your cut and paste on me with him.....he's not a viable candidate nor an impressive leader. He's just another GOP mistake.

Well, don't flatter yourself. You ain't the only poster in here. Wait! Are you an imposter?!

What does that even mean? Expressing disinterest in a bad political candidate is pretty far from flattering oneself .....as to imposters....they've already fooled you multiple times in the political landscape already....as Pete Townsend sang....don't get fooled again.

I apologize. I made a promise that I was going to be kinder and gentler in 2022. That said, I never, ever see myself voting for a Democrat. We shall see what the Conservative party has to offer in 2024.
