He'll end up pissing away good prospects and top draft picks for guys that won't win us jack shit. A guy like Bjugstad has one year left on his deal. About 50% on draws. 6'6 center. 31 years old. I doubt you would have to give up anything more than a Jones or 4th round pick for him. Hearing all these names and the cost around the Rangers just makes me shake my head. You would think the dumbass Drury would have brought up Berard to try with Zibanejad or Kreider. Or given Othmann another chance. Instead, he's whacking it to Rempe and Edstrom.

I have to be honest, I don't understand what your goal is. Is it to win a Cup, or accumulate kids and picks in the mid 20's, which at best usually yield bottom 6 forwards if they even make the NHL. Not saying piss away everything, but when your team is battling for 1st overall in the NHL, you have to go for it...within reason - Othmann and Perreault are off limits.

The teams the Rangers are battling with will make moves and improve, so doing nothing, or something minor, puts you even further behind. I just don't see how you could possibly sit there and not add and take your shot at the cost of a mid-20's pick at best potentially (double and triple so with Chytil out and his money available). And yeah, most likely it won't work out, only one team wins the Cup, so the odds are long for any specific team, but you have to take your shot, I think. Not going for it, again within reason, in the Rangers situation is not the right decision.

I think the point is if you don't think the team as currently constructed can win the Cup then 1) Is there someone available that will meaningfully increase the Rangers chances of winning the Cup? 2) What do the Rangers have to give up to get him/them?
If your answer to 1) is No, then you probably think the Rangers should do very little, if anything before the deadline. If your answer is Yes, then you shouldn't concern yourself with 2). The point is to win the Cup. Difference making players rarely if ever come on the cheap. I'd gladly (GLADLY) sacrifice the following 3-5 years to win the Cup. Sign me the fuck up for that because like someone, I forget who, on here relishes every opportunity to point out they have one Cup since 1941. Lets win the Cup now and worry about the next 3-5 years in the next 3-5 years.

With Trocheck and his ridiculous 60% draw rate any face off of relevance postseason will be taken by Vinny. I'd love to see Tarasenko back taking Kakko's spot, I'm done falling for Kappo's fool's gold and his soft ass will be even softer and more useless postseason. Rempe and Edstrom are both superior options for the rough and tumble post season and their PPG are similar.

Highly doubtful Rempe will play in the post season. Still would love to see a faceoff stud in Sturm center the 4th line.

In what world would this kid Berard make any difference at this point of his development on first line with two players who can’t play with anybody? Just leave Kakko there if you don’t get anyone significant. Othmann needs to be in Hartford and keep getting major minutes. He won’t do anything with those two either at this point. Edstrom is a good fourth liner for the playoffs. Rempe most likely won’t stick around come playoff time as Drury will get someone more experienced to play on the fourth line.

I would say don't count the REMPE-nator out of a playoff spot just yet. His kind of nasty is just what's needed in the playoffs!

I would be very surprised if Drury goes into the playoffs with two rookies on the 4th line. Rempe is a great prospect and could see a spot-start depending how a series goes. But I think ideally he is an extra for game 1. Vesey-Goodrow-Edstrom is likely to be the 4th and that line could be good. Lavi was already giving them shifts together last game even though Vesey carded on line 3 to start.

Not breaking news here but I see Drury looking for options at both 1RW and 3C. There's two ways you can take that - two rentals, or a guy with term. I think it will end up being two second-tier rentals (think a Duclair and Wenneberg-type) instead of the huge names like Guentzel. Maybe Henrique if it's cheap enough. But Drury has surprised us before.

All the names have been out there already, not worth hashing through them, but I trust Drury to acquire the right type of player. His deadlines have been pretty good and he has targeted the right kind of guys for the most part, except for the forced Kane deal which blew up in our face.

I am sick of hearing about Vatrano. Forget Vatrano. Vatrano was great when he cost a 4th. Find the next Vatrano. He's also not what Kreider and Mika need. They were much better at 5v5 2 years ago and Vatrano was perfect to ride shotgun. They need something different on that line right now. Maybe it ends up being Kakko and you look for a 3RW instead, but I have not been impressed at all with Kakko in that role.

Speaking of Kakko. If there is a hockey trade to be made, it's Kakko for a young C with term. That is probably more of an off-season move, but keep that in mind with what happens at this deadline. Our top 4 prospects are all wingers. If they are all still here after deadline day, I think Kakko's days could be numbered.

I'll say this, it is going to be a fun 7 days. Vatrano, Henrique, Tarasenko, Duclair, and Wenneberg have all been mentioned, I am sure there are other potential targets we haven't heard, and I would still like to upgrade the D, the options are endless...lol.

The only thing I feel very confident about is Drury will make at least one move (maybe more). There is no way this team is sitting where it is, with a bunch of cap space, and Drury does nothing. I think his most pressing focus will be to add a top RW, from there we'll see what else he does, maybe even a larger package deal.

Maybe he can somehow finagle around giving up a 1st, but it seems unlikely if he wants to turbocharge the team enough to really make a run.

It'll be interesting to see which team(s) make the next move. I'd be surprised if the Rangers stayed on the sidelines as well. I'm starting to come around on the need to improve the defense but at the same time I don't imagine a big name acquisition. Hanafin would be a fantastic piece to add but where does he fit among the current defensemen? I highly doubt they would consider breaking up either of the top two pairs at this stage of the season. Wouldn't make sense to bring him on and put him on the 3rd pair, although it would allow them to mitigate the ice-time for Fox and Lindgren. And I suppose he would slide into the 2PP group. But he has a very limited list of teams he wants to play for and I think the Rangers are not one of them.

Fully agree. Hard to see Drury blowing up the top 4 pairings at the deadline but defensive personnel - especially 1LD - needs to be upgraded going forward. Lindgren is not the long-term answer to play those minutes next to Fox. His game has slipped this year and the beating he takes is not sustainable. I am terrified of giving him a new long-term contract that sees him in that role. If he took a similar number maybe you can play him third pair, but that is a lot of money for a 3rd pairing defenseman when Schneider and Miller will need deals soon and Trouba isn't going anywhere yet.

Hanifin and Chychrun are two names to watch for offseason moves if Lindgren's RFA rights get moved. Hanifin will cost just cap space, Chychrun maybe we can pry out of Ottawa - maybe even this deadline so we have him for two playoff runs. Ottawa will be moving some pieces out and they have a jam there.

If it were me, I would have zero issue adding a dman you could slot into the top 4, moving Lindgren down to play with Gust or Schneider. I am not saying I'd target a top 4 dman for sure, we could choose to improve the 3rd pair and I would be okay as well. I am of the belief Drury should target a D upgrade over a # 3 C after addressing the top line RW spot. The two dmen Prod mentioned I have seen mentioned as well, not sure if that is doable with the cap though.

One small move made by Toronto was adding Lyubushkin for very little. That is a guy I was hoping Drury would target if we made a deal with the Ducks. He is a solid stay at home dman that would have upgraded the 3rd pair.

Drury has proven at the deadline he's a complete moron. He butchered the deadline last year. There is nothing out there that will make this team a legit contender. What they have to make a run is on the team. They just need to be hot at the right time. What they need is a legit faceoff stud 4th line center like Sturm as their faceoff percentage is slowly declining. Add a player like Eberle who shouldn't cost much.

The only thing Drury butchered last year was fixating on then signing Kane knowing he was injured and you need to lay off the crack if you think Rempe isn't on the playoff roster.

What is with this place's obsessions with crack? Who the hell smokes crack anymore?

I'm not on crack, I watch the games, I look at Rempe's TOI and deployment, I consider Lavi's track history with young players and his coaching style, and I think he is starting out with Vesey-Goodrow-Edstrom as the 4th with Rempe a potential spot start given how a series goes. "YOURE ON CRACK!"

Yes, half of New York City was doing it…40 years ago. Now it mostly lives on in the imagination of the esteemed posters of this board.

I enjoy reusing dump's catch phrases that do date back to the 90s. The smaller Debs pushed the Rangers around last year postseason and showed them the door, repeating that should cost Drury his job so guys like Edstrom and Rempe will be on the postseason roster.

Anybody who thinks Drury had an a successful trade deadline last year, in anyway, is a fucking moron. For starters the need for a face-off stud was greater than Tarasenko or Kane last year. He could gotten one for very low cost and he was fucking retarded. Second, the team was as soft as butter. He went for two euro pussy style players, instead of adding grit with some scoring touch. He failed miserably, and if you don’t think so, you should be fucking horsewhipped. Happy Porter?

Haha! That one gets me every time.
I remember the series against the Devils a little differently. I don't recall them getting pushed around as much as just outplayed from game 3 on. They looked uninspired and lethargic at home up 2-0 in the series. Certainly a player who plays with a serious edge could've been useful to make things more difficult for the Devils.
I think Drury did what most fans wanted him to at the deadline last season by getting Mikkola, Tarasenko (a bit before the deadline) and Kane. Of course those turned into a disaster, so yeah took his shots and missed horribly.

We are probably remembering the Tarasenko trade differently if the Kane trade did not happen. Overall I liked Tarasenko' game. Once we got Kane Tarasenko's opportunities and minutes went down, the PP was a mess, Galant had no idea how to deploy them and incorporate both into the lineup, and it made the team top-heavy. Hindsight is 20/20 but we should have been looking to compliment Tarasenko with a depth add, not add another redundant one-dimensional piece (that was on one leg). Drury (and much of the fanbase including myself) was blinded by the cheap price.

Drury's first trade deadline was great. Vatrano for a 4th was perfect, Copp was the right idea and would have made a bigger impact if he didnt get hurt in that Islanders game season end. Hopefully Drury follows that blueprint and not last year's. The right type of player at the right price, with any first rounder being conditional.

I recall last year saying that Kane wasn’t a necessity but someone on here kept saying that trade had to be made because it’s Patrick Kane for cheap

The Rangers didn’t win jack shit therefore for the deals were a failure, considering the payment.

I don't think the Kane deal was a bad deal in that they didn't give up much, and he wanted to be here, I think you had to take the chance to add him given those circumstances. The result was a failure, no argument there. I also don't think the decision was get Kane or go get someone else instead. I think it was adding Kane by making many cap money saving moves or do nothing else. I never got any impression Drury was going to do something else if Kane wasn't here. You could get on him for that decision, meaning he should have been looking to add someone else instead of Kane, but I do think that was his decision based on all the info at the time, Kane or done.

His trade DL two years ago was hugely successful, the best thing on Drury's resume as Pres/GM IMO, and it helped us make a fun run to the ECF. Last year not so much as he didn't add the right type of player(s) we needed. I did like the Tarasenko and Mikkola trade though, I just don't think he added the right players around that trade to add what the team lacked.

I'll also add, if you judge the trade DL simply on did the team win the Cup, then 99.9% of all teams fail every single season at the trade DL, I don't think that is how you judge it. If you have a good run, win some series, and get a lot of exciting moments, that matters. No parades, but if it is title or failure as your only two choices, that is a tough way to live, while clearly acknowledging the ultimate goal was not reached if you don't win the title.

Drury did something, he re-signed Quick for one more year with a 450 K raise, he'll make $1.275M next season. He has been really good this season thus far, so not surprised they are sticking with him for one more season.

Guaranteed he pisses away Laba at the deadline who has 30 points in 30 games with size and not much help. Then we can bitch about it for 10 years

The worst part of the Kane trade was the NHL taking the unprecedented step of denying the Rangers an emergency roster addition when Lindgren got hurt because K'Andre was suspended? Player safety LOL. Kane wasn't terrible postseason considering his condition, it was more the rest of the team that played like they were on one leg.
