Watched it last night. Might any of you relate to Ben...........only as a Blazer fan??

Fucking terrible. Rip off of a classic football (soccer) novel by Nick Hornby. I can't believe they Americanized it.

I've seen both. They're both good, though the "Hollywood style" ending to the American version was annoying. I'd probably favour the British one, but I'm (mostly) favourable to the American one as well.

Also, the American version wasn't a rip-off...it was done with Nick Hornby. It was an alternate adaption of the book.

I liked the 1997 version starring Colin Firth, even though it's about soccer. After watching that film, I don't think Americans are as fanatical about any sport the way the English are about soccer. The main character was pathological.

ABM- king of B movies and chick flicks. Me thinks I'll stick with my classics.

That said, I think watching videos is a perfectly good hobby as one grows older. Especially the "Debbie" series. :tsktsk:

Ehh, the wife is the chick flick afficionado, dude.

Me? "Cult" classics, baby. There's a lot to be said for the likes of Animal House, Caddy Shack, Airplane, Trading Places, Blazing Saddles, Groundhog Day, Fast Times @ Ridgemont High....and the like. :D

I know it wasn't a real rip-off, but that's what it seemed like in my eyes.

What was the ending in the original? I know the Red Sox one was supposed to end with them losing yet again, but since the team finally won, they changed the ending.

I thought it was a crappy movie, regardless.

Arsenal (protagonist's favourite team) wins, he gets the girl. I guess just as happy...but the run across the field just in time to stop the sale of the tix in the American version is what I found really silly.

The British version has a more indie film feel, the American version much more mainstream romantic comedy. What saves the American version, IMO, is that the story and characters are still good since they come from a good book.

Yeah, that was lame.
