^ How awesome is that..... they traded Hedo cause he was gay?

I'm all for equal rights, but I still think it's going to create a mess in the military. Are they going to have four different locker rooms now?

Nate, please. There won't be a mess. Does the YMCA have 4 locker rooms?

By the way, my brother is straight and has served 2 tours in Iraq and he is thrilled with this decision. This is good for the military. No more lying. Great gay and lesbian soldiers/heroes aren't booted for being open about who they are.

And geez, do we need separate locker rooms for African Americans too?

Two thirds of the military disagrees. The chairman and vice chairman of the joint chiefs of staff also disagree. That's a lot of military opinion, IMO.

Is being black a sexual orientation?

I'm just saying, if they are going to repeal DADT, they should be prepared for some servicemen and women to ask for separate locker rooms, and they would have to give it to them because they are violating their privacy if they don't. Otherwise just have one locker room for men AND women and say fuck it.... everyone can stare at everyone. That's what I would recommend.

Regardless of how you feel Eric, there are people who will not appreciate openly gay men in their locker room.

I think gay guys can use remote control bomb drones to drop bombs on poor civilians in the middle east just as well as straight guys can.

I wish I had never HEARD the term gay rights but I am glad that this has been repealed as ANY American that wants to serve their country should be free to do so.

My personal prejudices don't always agree with what I think is fair or logical.

great ... now can we get the medical benefits for 9/11 first responders passed? i'm all for gays in the military but these first responders are dying slow, horrible deaths with no money.

It would have been sooner if the dems didn't try to put the illegal immigrant bill last time

Once upon a time, people didn't want to use the same water fountains or bathrooms as black people. The prejudice is the same.

Dude. They have already BEEN sharing locker rooms with gay men with no "privacy issues." And I'm sure most of the soldiers know who these guys are. All that's changed is that the gay soliders don't have to lie. Nothing is changing except that honest hardworking soldiers can't be thrown out for being open about who they are. Why on earth should anyone support lying?? This is about dignity and integrity.

In 100 years, we can look back at your post and you'll sound like the people that didn't want women to vote. It's that silly.

Dude, calm the fuck down. I'm not saying gays shouldn't be able to serve in the military, and I've been a huge supporter of gays having the right to marry, adopt children, et al. Like I said, I personally think they should just have one big locker room with everyone in it (gays, straights, guys girls).

I'm just saying that there will be people who are uncomfortable having openly gay men and women in the showers with them, or watching them get dressed. I'm just being logical here. I'm saying that the military will have to address it, because in this politically correct society they have to cater to everyone's personal rights, even the minority (which the amount of people who are offended might only be a minority).

I don't know how you can compare this to sharing a drinking fountain with black people. How does sharing a public drinking fountain compare to someone's privacy? Why do we have separate bathrooms and locker rooms for men and women? Why can't I walk into a woman's locker room and shower with five or six naked women? I'm just playing devils advocate here. I think logistically this could create some problems. How is that being prejudice?

how often do military people use locker rooms?

Fine, call it what you want... community showers/bathroom. In bootcamp I showered with five other guys in one big shower area. Zero privacy anyway.

Tell us more...maybe draw what it looked like so we can understand....

That was how our dorms were in college. Big deal

It was a stupid policy and I'm glad it's gone. I'll be interested to see its implementation, as that's where the rubber meets the road. There are going to be some problems, as there were with integration of blacks, but the military will figure it out--it's the best meritocracy we have going.

That's all I'm saying, I think there will be problems with integration.... but apparently that makes me a homophobe for pointing it out.

what exactly is your opinion? do you think people have the right to complain about being nude or whatever around gays of the same sex? or were you just mentioning that it might be an issue?

I don't think non-gays have any right to complain about having to share a locker room with gays. If they don't like, they can gtfo. They allow gays now. Douche bags are still not allowed.

This is the kind of thinking that drives me nuts. If we DID make all unisex changing rooms then according to this logic self conscious women would be douche bags.

It is a free country, if gays are free to do something other people should be free to bitch about it.
