You want Helfrich gone, but that could mean we lose this style of spread offense that's made us so successful the last 6 years. When Chip Kelly left I remember reporters asking players if the system would suffer under Helfrich and each one of them said it wouldn't miss a beat. If the players themselves (some were off to the NFL at the time anyways) thought the system wouldn't change then I have to believe it.
Then again, it's his and his staff's job to motivate the players and make them believe in the system and Helfrich is certainly deserving of some blame. The offense does look slower. It's less creative and predictable. The defense is another story. The Ducks made a mistake hiring from within the organization instead of going out and finding an experienced defensive coordinator. There's a noticeable difference since Pellum was hired, despite having a roster of 3/4 star recruits. It should be better than this. The whole philosophy has changed, really.
I think we're ok with Helfrich, but wouldn't mind seeing Pellum go.
