I do not think so but Here is a unscientific what if poll. The question is if you were kp do you jump ship on the coach

It's either poor coaching or we have three very over rated ball players in Roy, Aldridge and Oden. I prefer to think that it's the latter.

So all three players are over rated? Maybe LMA, but not Roy and Oden. First Roy is damn good. Second Oden is widely considered to be a bust. If anything Oden is way under rated.

Right now the team seems to need a change of some kind. Since you can't fire your players that typically falls on the coach.

I voted no, because it's WAAAY to early to do this, but if this team under achieves meaning under .500 this season, I think it needs to really be a heavy priority.

Nate's a pretty goody coach. But I wonder if he just has too much history here now. He and guys like Blake and Przybilla and Webster and even Roy and Aldridge all go back to the dark days of the past. He seems to defer to those guys too much, while not maximizing newer players like Bayless, Oden, Fernandez and Miller. The truth is several of the new guys are a lot better than several of the old guys, and it's time to ride the new horses more.

I didn't vote to fire Nate. But the vote is getting harder. The retarded two point guard lineup that he still throws out there all too often just needs to go.

Blake needs to see the far end of the bench, behind Bayless. Williams used Blake like he was his tampon out there. Fucking hideous.

And Roy. Fucking A. End of the quarter yesterday he walked the ball up and there was about 3 seconds left on the clock before he fucking realizes he's got to shoot and takes some ugly shit. Just not fucking paying attention. Well, that happens, you say. Except he fucking did it again tonight. Wanders across midcourt languidly dribbling with about 5 seconds left, looks up, says "Oh shit" and tosses it to Andre Miller at the goddamn three point line. Miller has to shoot it because Roy's fuckup doesn't give him a choice.

Roy has looked seriously fucking overpaid out there. That's not necessarily the coach's fault, but the coach has got to figure out how he's going to wake him up.

Everyone voting yes, I feel, is jumping the gun. If the team underachieves on the season, then you'd have a case.

the team is already under achieving.

Not yet. If we rattle off four more losses in a row, he should probably go.

I meant play out the entire season first.

The issues that the team has now, are the same ones they've had the whole time Nate has been coach. And at least then you could argue it was warranted due to the lack of talent on the team.

They aren't using Greg worth shit, or Rudy, and he's relying on Blake too much. He played Roy out of position instead of, god forbid, trying Miller and Roy in the starting 5. He is unable to change the offense for players (why on earth is Andre ever camped out in the 3 point line?) and he doesn't incorporate a 2 man game with Greg and anyone else. Their perimeter defense is inept. They don't get easy shots, and they don't run at all.

The only time they did any running was when Miller was in the starting lineup. And the times they go to Greg is best when ANdre is playing. You know how Brandon and Andre are going ot get used to each other? By playing together.

This team was supposed to take a step forward this year, and so far they've taken a step back. Tonights game looked like it was being played by a team that should win maybe 28 games, instead of 58.

So, it's all Nate's fault? I don't agree with that thinking and I don't think KP does either. Nate has done enough over 4 years that he deserves an entire season of evaluation before being canned.

whats deserves got to do with it?

I'm not willing, as a fan, to risk a whole season lost because Nate has "deserved" a whole season. This isn't friend ship, this is business. Mike Shuler, won COtY in 86-87, won 51 game games the year after, and was fired 48 games into 88-89.

Byron Scott coached a team that went to 2 straight NBA finals and was canned.

He won COtY 2 years ago and was canned this year (and probably about half a season too late).

Sam Mitchel won COtY and was canned soon after.

Same with Avery Johnson. Hell, his team went to the finals and he was fired.

Rick Adleman who took the team to 3 WCF's and 2 NBA finals, was fired 2 years after his last Finals appearance.

Dunleavy was fired a YEAR after going to two straight WCF's.

Nate hasn't earned shit.

To me, firing Nate and hiring a new coach 19 games into the season is also risking the entire season.

who would you get as a coach now that is available? let monty do it?

If the team has already given up on him, how can it get worse?

I'm not convinced they haven't. They've had 19 games to play and after a good season last year they still are doing the same mistakes they did 3 years ago.

I know they lost Batum and Outlaw, but that doesn't explain how shitty Blake is playing, and how Roy has stopped playing defense and LaMarcus doesn't either. nor does it explain how the team doesn't utilize Greg Oden or Rudy.

You are assuming that

1.) The team has given up on Nate.

2.) They will embrace the new coach.

3.) The new coach is better than Nate.

4.) The team can learn a new system on the fly.

5.) The new system is significantly better than the one we currently have.

6.) The new coach will utilize Oden and Rudy better.

Geez, that seems like risking the season to me. We didn't come out to a horrid start like New Orleans. Even if we've been crapping on bad teams, we're still 12-7. So until you show me 41-41 or something similar at the end of the season, you play it safe and stick with Nate.

i voted no just because i dont see anyone reasonable to replace him. not to say i looooooove nate but i dont necessarily hate him.... all the time

You know, I have been thinking (scary, I know)... I always felt Nate was the guy brought into to get the talent up to par (which he has done for the most part). I never thought he would be the coach that would take the team to the promise land. I always felt he would be replaced by a proven coach.

Add this to the fact that KP had said a few years ago that he had a FA on his mind that no one else was thinking about and hinted at this coming off season. McMillan came out last off season and said he is only doing year by year contracts from here on out (I feel this was more of KP's wanting than Nates).

Here is where I am getting to, what if KP is targeting not a player but a coach.

All you guys talk about that fantasy trade or player that you want to come to the team, I have been wanting a Coach like Phil Jackson. Could you imagine what he could possibly do with the talent on this team. His triangle offense would most likely work wonders with Roy-Aldridge-Oden holding it down. Add to it shooters like Rudy and Martell, play makers like Outlaw and a back up center (if resigned) like Pryz... He could actually possibly turn this roster into a dynasty.

Now, I know it is a pipe dream but what are your opinions? What coach do you think would be a good fit here (even if you feel it is McMillan)? I just do not see Nate as a championship caliber coach, if he stays I would gladly love to be proven wrong.

\McMillan came out last off season and said he is only doing year by year contracts from here on out (I feel this was more of KP's wanting than Nates).
It's all Nate. There was an article about it over the summer. KP has tried to sign Nate to an extension numerous times already.

I think Monty would be a better coach...He learned from Pop. I think Nate is extremely stubborn and has lost the players this year. The odds of him getting fired are slim to none though.

Yea Nate wanted to "earn" his money. Thank god we didn't sign him to a large extension!

I'm willing to give Nate until the all-star break. If this team is still seriously underperforming and massively regressing at that point then it won't matter what the poll says, it will be almost a given that Nate gets the axe ... Let me rephrase: I hope KP is smart enough to know when to let the axe fall

I voted yes on the assumption that the team doesn't really get much better in the next 10 games or so. If the team is still playing good but mediocre ball by the end of December, I think a change needs to be made.

Gramps...

I meant play out the entire season first.

No way. NBA careers are two short. I don't want to waste an entire season waiting for Nate McMillan to pull his head out of his ass and see what's so obvious to everyone else on earth.

1a) Greg needs to play more - and he needs to get the ball more in the low post.

1b) Andre Miller needs to start and play every second that Greg Oden is on the court. Playing with Steve Blake is a complete waste of Oden's talent. Miller actually gets Oden the ball in position to score easy baskets. Blake can't/won't. I've never seen a supposed PG worse at making the entry pass than Steve Blake.

1C) Steve Blake needs to see his minutes cut to 12 MPG immediately and forever more. He brings NOTHING to the starting line-up. Its like playing 3 on 5 on offense (because we get nothing from Blake or Oden when Blake starts) and 4 on 5 on defense since Blake can't keep anyone in front of him and doesn't get back on defense. He can't run the break, and he can't stop the other team from doing it either. At his point, I wouldn't mind seeing Blake relegated to 3rd string behind both Miller and Bayless.

Shit, I'm convinced Nate McMillan is the ONLY person left on this planet that thinks starting Steve Blake is a good idea - and that includes Steve Blake. Portland fans are too polite to boo anyone who isn't a total assclown (Bonzi). Thankfully, we don't have anyone like that on the roster these days. So, when player totally sucks, the entire crowd groans in unison when they make an especially boneheaded play. At the Memphis game, Steve Blake lead the team in groans. He fails to get the ball to a wide open Oden under the basket GROAN, he then tries to force a soft pass to a triple teamed Aldridge GROAN and fails to get back on defense after his pass is picked off and Conley scores an uncontested lay-up at the other end GROAN. He misses TWO free throws in the 4th quarter when the Blazers are trying to get back in the game GROAN. Seriously, Blake isn't stupid, He'd probably rather come of the bench at this point rather than have the home town fans turn completely against him.

Doesn't that seem even more risky to you? Unless we are completely bombing at some point of the season, I just can't see Nate getting fired.
