Again:

Doesn't that seem even more risky to you? Unless we are completely bombing at some point of the season, I just can't see Nate getting fired.

You are assuming that

1.) The team has given up on Nate.

Response: The team has proven time and time again that it won't and it ain't going to sell out for Nate McMillan. The only way this team is going to win something significant is if they start to and consistantly do this.

2.) They will embrace the new coach.

Respnose: I think they will embrace a popular assistant. Monty Williams is awfully popular

3.) The new coach is better than Nate.

Response: We won't know that until we give it a try. However, I would place the interim label on the new head coach. And if he ain't the answer at seasons end then I would go out and find the answer.

4.) The team can learn a new system on the fly.

Response: If it's a current assistant. More than likely the system doesn't change

5.) The new system is significantly better than the one we currently have.

Response: We can hope that the system is more efficient and productive under a new coach

6.) The new coach will utilize Oden and Rudy better.

Reponse: If it's Monty Williams, I have to believe he has learned enough playing under and coaching under Gregg Popavich to understand the value of someone like Greg Oden and Rudy Fernandez. Therefore, he will use them the right way

Firing Nate would be a huge risk for this young team (think Bulls). I would only fire Nate if I knew I could get an upgrade at coach otherwise it's not worth it. BTW I think we'll be fine although we are going through some major growing pains.

How many games in a row do we need to dig ourselves into a 20-point hole in the first half before a change is desirable. This is the easy part of our schedule. You think the hard part is going to be any better? Are you willing to throw the a season away on the hope that the team full of players who don't know their roles will somehow magically start to play better as the opponents get tougher?

Honestly, the way Nate is coaching this season, I don't think you could find someone who could do a worse job with the talent he has. He completely under uses Oden, and after training camp, 8 preseason games and 19 regular season games, the players on this team still don't know the roles he expects them to play. He's pissed away the easy part of our schedule. What makes you think he won't do the same against the tough opponents? The only moves he makes are boneheaded - the 3 guard line-up, staring Blake, the small line-up against Atlanta, pulling Oden at the 6 minute mark of the 1st quarter NO MATTER WHAT THE SITUATION. If there was an award for anti-coach of the year, Nate McMillan would be winning by a landslide right now.

It depends on how this team responds. The two consecutive blowout losses sting like hell, but all teams have a few terrible home losses every season and we've historically sucked in Utah, as in the games have not been close. The Blazers haven't experienced these double digit deficits (except in GS) this season until now. Even games against Denver and Atlanta haven't been terrible losses, so I don't know what happened. :dunno: If GMs always fire coaches after two consecutive bad losses, I would assume that the number of coaches fired over the past decade would be higher.

I've hated his moves too, but there is no guarantee that his replacement will be much better. It's crazy, but as bad as his moves have been, he hasn't gotten us killed until now. And no matter how easy our schedule has been, I just can't see a coach getting fired when his team is 12-7. So like I said, unless we are completely bombing at some point, I can't see enough justification for firing him.

HOWEVER, from December 17-25 we play

Phoenix
@Orlando
@MiAmI
@Dallas
@San Antonio
Denver

So if we completely fuck up, as in 5-6 losses (in a row), you might get your wish.

Bring in JVG or McHale!

Does anybody here think Nate's got a little Mike Schuler in him? Can't say I'd cry if Adelman left the Rockets and took this team over again. :wink:

Mikes successor came off his staff. Nate's successor will probably come from the same place if and when he is relieved of his duties. Monty Williams is this generations Rick Adelman.

Geeez...I did not think so many people would be blaming the coach for the team playing like shit. These guys all need to book a deschutes river steelhead trip and bond or something. The x2 blowouts are hard to swallow with all this damn talent. I am telling you these guys need some bonding time maybe even bowling.:crazy:

Learning how to execute and play the game is more important than any fishing trip nied.

Honestly I'm shocked it's at 60/40 for at this point; that's surprisingly better than I anticipated.

Let's be real here though, when a team doesn't look like it knows what it's doing 20 games into a season it's probably natural to start looking at the guy who supposedly gets them ready to play in games.

For me, I tend to look at KP as a culprit nearly as much for failing to go ahead and fill out his roster with defensive minded players and/or consolidate some of these guys who need development time for veteran role-players or positional players who would typically know how to fit in with a minimal amount of fuss -- This is stuff I feared might happen after no trades were made in June and July, unfortunately it appears I may have actually been right.

I mute games sometimes because Mike Rice is such an idiot. I don't know how he still has a job. "Oh shhherrr"

Well, some of you might be getting your wish...

What were once smoldering hot spots on this team have suddenly taken spark, presenting McMillan with his biggest challenge in this new era of successful Blazers basketball. And for the first time, it doesn't appear McMillan has the unquestioned support from key players.

The Blazers players are most concerned about the offense, which has undergone a decided change from last season, when Roy and Aldridge dominated the ball and shots with pick-and-roll variations. This season, with Oden becoming a formidable and effective option, the offense more often revolves around entry passes to Oden.

McMillan says it is up to the players to figure out how to make that dynamic work. The players say the system now isn't working because both Roy and Aldridge are struggling.

"I don't know. That's why coaches coach," Roy said. "I just go out there, you know? He's the coach."

Roy said he has seen this coming for weeks.

...

Miller said he has never been used so little in any game he has played, but said he doesn't plan to address McMillan with his concerns.

"Nah. I won't say nothin'," Miller said. "I keep my mouth closed and keep a movin'."

I still don't know what to think, but that bolded part...I didn't see that coming. I thought Roy and Nate were close.

Ah. You mean when the Bulls fired Doug Collins and promoted Phil Jackson to head coach of a young Bulls team with Jordan, Pippen and Grant...which proceeded to become a powerhouse, rather than exciting, talented also-ran?

I'm not sure I agree that firing McMillan will be that productive, but it might be. Just as Collins was considered to be handling the talent on hand non-optimally, I think the same is true of McMillan.

Good example! ;)

I was joking but a fishing trip 3 days on the deschutes would give the guys some quality get to know each other time.

Yeah right. Oden is 8th on the team in FGA/36 min. The team does a better job getting shots for Dante Cunningham than they do for Greg Oden.

What's more important right now is for these little boys to quit gossiping and talking to the media and going out and play like men. It's now or never. It's time to start working and selling out on both ends of the court.

Well duh, it's easier to create a jumpshot than it is to create a layup/dunk opportunity.

Oden has demonstrated a variety of low post moves other than lay-ups/dunks - WHEN his teammates get him the ball. The problem is Steve Blake cannot make an entry pass to save his life and Nate AUTOMATICALLY yanks Oden at the 6 minute mark NO MATTER WHAT, which means Oden goes most of the first half either on the bench or playing with a point guard who can't/won't get him the ball.

i think that if and i mean if nate gets fired! monty would get the interm coach job not saying thats not something already known but just my opinion.... i just totally forgot how much the players liked monty and i bet you if he learned anything from pop..... its that miller is better than blake!

I am not quite ready to vote yes, but if Nate were fired, I could get behind that decision too. I would like to see a little more time for Nate to prove/disprove himself.

Nate does some things very well, but his in-game coaching is really looking sub-par. And with Allen being sick, I am not too sure if he will take the initiative to fire Nate even if it does become sorely apparent that it is needed.

Oden plays best when Rudy's on the floor with him. Rudy is the best player on the team at feeding entry passes.

We need to move Oden to the bench, so he can play with Rudy and Miller.
