So if Lillard is not his guy, he can trade him instead of CJ?

The Dame thing is semantics and I'm sorry I got involved with it (although it was really obvious at the time). I guess the question is do you want to spend another eight years with a GM that delivers six playoff wins outside of the first round? If not then how many years? If you're OK with just making the playoffs and leaving after the first round then hold onto Neil but if you want to win a championship, why would you hold onto him for one more day?

I don’t want to argue with you about this. Believe what you want, I really don’t care.

Neil is riding on the shoulders of Dame.

Lillard is so good that he can will a mediocre roster to the playoffs each year.

Reality is - even with a healthy CJ/Nurk - Dame has to play superhuman to stay in most games. It’s been like this for years.

FIRE NEIL!!!

fire em both we don’t need either one.

I wonder if we could convince Wheeler to have Neil and Stotts charged for stealing their paychecks.

There is clearly some kind of blackmail or confidence scheme going on here.

We just have to ride this season out. See what happens when CJ and Nurk get back. Watch the playoffs, I'm sure we'll be in them. Then when we don't win a game in the WCF (probably a first round exit) the only logical thing ownership can do is end this unprecedented run of mediocrity.

So the day we are out of the playoffs (unless something great happens and we put up a fight in the WCF or find our team in the actual finals) you fire Neil and don't let him say a word in his own defense. Just fire his ass. Don't let him make Stotts the scapegoat after nine fucking years. Fire Neil and let the next GM fire Stotts.

Let's see what someone who isn't a college lacrosse player (not basketball just lacrosse) turned failed actor, turned slimiest spin doctor in basketball decides to do with our team. Maybe we can get an actual basketball person in here to make basketball decisions.

We should examine Neil Olshey's basketball credentials. He played AAU basketball but was just some kid playing ball. Doesn't do anything with basketball again until his thirties. He then volunteers as an assistant coach at a Southern California high school basketball powerhouse Artesia. There the best player he assists in coaching is Jason Kapono. Then Olshey turns his attention to the racket of inflating the draft stock of prospects by starting a company that helps them prepare for combines and the interview process. Then probably finds out where a body is buried and is picked up by the Clippers where he worked his way up to GM in five years. Then this never ending monsoon of mediocrity worms his way into our team where the front office had already decided on drafting Damian Lillard and since then he's road Lillard's coattails for nine years.

sorry, but I think I'll steal "monsoon of mediocrity"....I have a use for it

I might combine it with 'hurricane of hubris'

This isn't just a bump.

I was just thinking, if Olshey doesn't do something big at the deadline the guy either knows his job is safe regardless of playoff performance or he's out of the loop with the Vulcans. It's really an interesting situation because if it's the former our ownership doesn't give a shit about contending (which would be infuriating) and if it's the latter Olshey is just as detached by his arrogance as he seems to be most of the time in public (which would be hilarious).

Im not sure Jody has the same passion about a championship? Hope Im wrong. I do think she probably parallels the Vulcan's way of accessing business performance.

Fuck Neil! You can't blame Stotts for Stottsing, you blame the guy who has let him Stotts for the last nine fucking seasons. Fire Olshey, do not let him scapegoat Terry Stotts. Of course I think the next GM will fire Stotts but if that GM makes other changes to the roster and coaching staff and then explains why he thinks all of these things will make Stotts a championship winning coach... I think the new GM should be given a short time to prove if the explanation for keeping Stotts is wrong or right. Hopefully Neil's ass is out the door, swiftly followed by Terry's if they don't deliver us some WCF wins. After nine seasons if these two don't have the team trending in the right direction it is so so so far past time for them to go... but Neil first please.

If Olshey isn’t gonna fire Stotts, he better give him all the defenders he can. This thread is gonna be fun if (when) Olshey does jack shit again and hoards his precious players. Then we’ll hear all the usual excuses while the rest of the playoff teams stock up. I’m annoyed just thinking about it, but I’ll save my true anger until Thursday/after the buyout market.

I think Stotts offense is garbage, too much freedom, not enough ball movement/player movement and doesn’t know how to defend the pick and roll for shit.

But, players like him and play hard for him.

The fact he’s one of the most tenured coaches in the league is a joke. I’ve seen coaches in pro sports lose their job a couple years after winning championships.

Olshey needs to grow a pair. I think Olshey is a decent talent evaluator. Who is obsessed with the guys he drafts, is afraid of making big moves. He re-signs too many unproven players and is afraid of change. Not great qualities of a GM. It’s not impossible to win a championship in a small market. You gotta A.) Do well in the draft and B.) gamble on big trades to bring in needle moving type players.

Neil has to go

If the roster is wrong then it's Neil's fault and if Stotts is wrong for the roster it's Neil's fault. Neil has been changing aspects of the roster he has designated as the areas of need that will win us championships and he's been doing that for almost a decade unsuccessfully. If Terry has been the wrong guy for the job, Neil has been keeping the wrong guy around for almost a decade. Olshey can not be allowed to fire Terry Stotts. Olshey has to be fired first. I'm not saying that it will go down that way but it is the only ethical way for this team to make a change and if this team is trying to compete a change must be made.

“Look....”

(fill in the Neil quote)

Look, you need to understand that right now, 2 of our starters are out and one is still trying to find his rhythm coming back from an injury. When everybody gets healthy, we can make a run for the title

Olshey already has the title on lockdown
