Olshey put a better team together than some who are winning in the West. It's far from perfect but any team would like the trio of Damian, CJ and Nurk. Stotts is one of the least original, least heady coaches I've ever seen. Nurk has a great passing game that remains completely under-utilized.

Saying that, I wouldn't be mad if both left. Stotts for sure. His firing can't come fast enough.
I think this is where I come down. I watched that game last night and didn't see a talent disparity. But I most certainly saw a coaching disparity.

Olshey has given the Blazers one of the worst starting combos at forward in the league, but it's Stotts that gives Aminu the green light from '3' and keeps playing Harmless. It's Stotts who relies on his guards to make tough shots because they can rather than come up with something that gets better looks. Endless handoffs... really?

So to me they are both to blame. It's been long enough!

This teams not worth cheering for. As much as i love dame he aint gonna get it done. CJ should go dominate the wnba, aminu and harkless would be bench warmers or waterboys in another team and the bosnian "beast" is soft af and lost against good defensive Centers

More and more, the 'Bosnian Beast' looks like it was a very brief showcase to get a big contract. The Bosnian Beast dunked on everyone with abandon. This version....not so much.

Yeah no idea why People Call him a beast? He is Everything but a beast, sure he has some good skills but that matchup against Gobert looked like Drummond vs Embiid, Gobert completely destroyed him, Nurkic had no chance against him

The disconnect between his apparent talent and his actual performance is becoming a source of despair. Better coaching would certainly help - but at some point Nurk has to take some responsibility for his own career. Newsflash Nurk! You are not an innocent bystander to your own life!

You know who else feels that Neil doesn't know what he's doing? Dame.

Last summer he met directly with Paul and the Vulcans about the direction of the team - purposely went above Neil. One grievance made was about giving away Barton for nothing.

Then this roster looked like it had no business playing AD/Jrue and their cast of nobodies - and somehow Curry + Stauskas - Ed Davis = the answer?

/rant

Wonder if Neil letting Davis walk was a shot across the bow at Dame. Like, "Don't try to go over my head, 'superstar'; I'll show you exactly who's in charge here."

Nah, probably not. But maybe...

Uh huh. Uh huh. Cool. He also always has Stotts' back. So, that's one in the plus column and one in the minus column.

Browsing reddit and Twitter -- some scuttlebutt: Olshey has the audacity to threaten writers in Portland? I can only assume that he'd try to take away their press passes.

Sly, get on the horn and land another Q&A, we need answers.

This thread has now reached 1000 posts.

"Where were these people 10 days ago?" <--- Neil's smug reply to being swept by N.O. -- referencing a meaningless winning streak prior to the playoffs.

Lmao that quote was so idiotic. It’s like he doesn’t understand regular season basketball is different than the playoffs. Teams usually don’t sell out to stop you in the regular season. Winning isn’t the only priority in the regular season. The way Portland usually plays (offense built around getting dame and CJ looks) doesn’t work in the playoffs. Never has. Never will. And change hasn’t really happened. They still revert back to it whenever they are down/struggling.

Which doesn't mean much since he continues backing the only coach he's ever played under on the NBA level. Players shouldn't be calling the shots, although I don't blame him for getting involved and showing his loyalty. Stotts has been the Blazers head coach for close to a decade and still hasn't produced any real results in the post-season.

Is Olshey actually still alive? since the press conference from Paul Allens passing you have not heard anything from him

REAL QUICK, what should this this thread be called? I already told you to put me on ignore once. You come in here and single me out? Get a different hobby.

hmmm, maybe scalmas piss and moaning thread about Olshey? :devilwink:

You don't think he sealed his fate already?
No not at all, despite what the feeling in here is I think he can still hide behind the facts that his teams make the playoffs every year and that they are making money.

At minimum he has to pull off a Nurk type of trade that sparks a bit of a run even if that player isn't a star.

I could’ve sworn I said this same thing last year at this time.
Well he got his ass saved by that 13 game winning streak right after the deadline otherwise he probably would've been gone by now. It didn't help getting torched by Mirotic in the playoffs (18.3 PPG and 9.5 RPG) when he could've likely had him with the trade exception instead of the Pelicans getting him.

I don't think that was ever an option. At what cost? and would Paul Allen have approved of that kind of deal when we sent out Vonleh to get under the luxury tax. That contract would have cost us around double and started the clock making this a consecutive year of being over the luxury tax.
