We didn't have the capspace they wanted....but whose fault is that? Who held a gun to Neil's head and offered every single one of Crabbe, Turner, Harkless and Leonard a 4 year extension....on top of the amount of money? The $$$ AND the length of those contracts has hamstrung this franchise since the day they were signed. Any financial advisor worth their salt will talk to you about dollar cost averaging going in and laddering going at at least as an option. Neill chose to give 4 year deals to everyone there by having no ending contracts coming up before then.

That's on him.

How many other GMs had 40 million in cap space to offer?

So are they alllll at fault then for not constantly giving out 1 or 2 year contracts so they can have "cap space" if the moment presents itself?

So I guess, yea, he has the same problem as virtually every other GM in the league. They are all terrible because they don't have a revolving door of 40mm worth of 1 year contracts every year to offer at any given time.

Staggering those contracts wouldn't do a damn thing in this case. In fact, it's better not to have them staggered so we can offer people $40mm in cap space next year, right?

Otherwise we would constantly be offering a fraction of that, just like most other teams.

Smells to me like we developed Jake into a 40 Million dollars player, amirite ?

Any criticism of Neil is absolutely justified! It was he who brought us into this situation at all, i mean why the fuck did it have to be 4 years??? Why not at least a Team Option on the last year on Turners', Meyers' and Harkles' contracts??? That Summer was one of the worst in the history in terms of contracts

I'm not saying you're wrong but there was stupid amounts of money being handed out that summer. Most players got full 4 year contracts. When that is the case it's hard to negotiate a team option.

Edit: The Blazers also are still getting a contribution from Turner, Meyers, and Hakless (though they are paying for Crabbe in the form of Nicholson's contract). A few teams have guys that they are still paying but aren't even with the team anymore like Deng, Noah, and Parsons.

3-4 hours to go and this topic is going to get very active again.

If we doing "nothing" this deadline and in the offseason, then I hope that another team will make KP(like player)-for-expirings, because then, we'll be ready. Of course, it won't happen, because trades like that are somewhat rare.

It's actually maddening. He was "doing right" by the players but does anyone in the right mind think that Turner/Meyers/Harkless would have said no to having a TO in the last year? I mean we were bidding against ourselves on all three guys.

Prepare for an onslaught of excuses from Neil while simultaneously preaching about patience.

wonder how many times I have posted to this thread over the years...LOL sort of, can we please get rid of his worthless carcass

Neil can just replay last year's post deadline press conference.

I wonder if he is even trying to get anything done at this point?....or is preparing the excuses/cliche's for his softball interview with Brooke.
