NBA head coaches never resign. It would ruin their reputations. Larry Brown was very surprised when owners stopped hiring him.

If they resign they forfeit what's left on their contract.

If they're fired they still get paid.

Seems like an easy decision to me.

His ass is getting canned before the sun rises if they lose vs Denver. There is no other option.

It's a weird feeling today...
On one hand - there is the excitement for a big game and victory.
On the other, there's FINAL a chance for some change to the status quo.
Really I just hope tonight's game is sort of a blowout one way or another.

that’s where I’m at. I’d be different if I believed we could win a championship with this coach. I don’t think we could, even with a better roster. At the same time I still don’t wanna see them lose. But if they do, it speeds up the necessary change, so...*shrug*

I hate the 6 year status quo, on the court, in coaching, in the front office

but I sure won't be happy with a loss

Stotts has promised to learn some new X's and O's.

I think given how shiny and happy this group has been over the last 9 years, there will be a press conference announcing that Stotts and the team have decided to mutually separate. Stotts will get his money and no one has to say the word "fired" and the team can keep singing kumbaya around a camp fire together. Hopefully I'm wrong because if the team does announce that they have fired Stotts it might be a sign that the team is ready to start holding people accountable and operating like a business.

Don't hold your breath. Olshey is loathe to admit a mistake. The "decided to mutually separate" thing is very likely.

Or Stotts might even just accept another job...

Dwight Jaynes piling on:
"Stotts has always been known as a players’ coach. He is, by all accounts, very easy to play for. And sometimes players take advantage of such coaches. He finds players he likes, puts them in a rotation and lets them go -- seldom making adjustments from quarter to quarter or even game to game. His team has been predictable to a fault.

His two best players take more than 50 percent of the team's shots, yet other players are supposed to cover for them at the defensive end.

I do not believe Stotts will return next season and I do believe this roster deserves a chance to make progress under a new, innovative and more-demanding head coach."
