Really my point was that I question the wisdom of front runners and band wagoners. If you only follow winners, what do you know about losing?

Couldn't the same be true about those who have only followed the Blazers the last 5+ years? You would think making the playoffs and losing in the 1st round is like hitting rock bottom... which is exactly how some act here.

Are we talking about 12 year olds? What subset of our fans have only been watching for 5 years? And why would they choose the Blazers?

I have no clue the age of when fans start watching their teams and why. When you said the Warriors just got a ton of new fans, are you assuming they are 12? I'm not sure I'd say age and perspective are always in line.

I know a 63 year old Blazer fans who started watching them seriously around age 55 and purchased tickets at age 57. That's probably abnormal, but I don't have data to back it up.

You would have to read the string of posts leading up to that to have a chance of understanding. Sorry if that statement upset or confused you.

Nate was talking about fans who don't have a long enough history rooting for a team lacking ability to make quality judgements. I was not saying I believe that to be true.
I did, and still came to that question.

It's time for Stotts to go. He may not be the only problem with the team, but right now he's the biggest obstacle to their success. Bring back Vanderpool as HC.

I'm assuming that a lot of front runners jumped ship. You have Durant fans who started watching the Warriors. I actually think a lot of Laker fans swapped over to GSW after Kobe retired. But I'm just guessing. I don't know where they came from. I just know they materialized around 2016.

I think the main problem with your theory is, while possible, it could be 100% false.

You'd have to compare total fans who post on twitter, how old they are, how long they've been fans etc. So many assumptions are being made.
It's more than just assumptions. It's a careless lack of even the slightest conceptual position to the changing social atmosphere within not only the NBA but worldwide. It's laughable.

Ok to summarize our debate:

Me: the Warriors gained a ton of fans in their title runs and MOST of those fans weren't around 10 years ago.
  1. The Warriors revenue more than doubled in five years and where does revenue come from....... that's right..... fans!
  2. The Warriors tripled their facebook followers in five years and went from 1.9 million twitter followers to 6.6 million in that same span.
  3. Linked an article which stated that The Facebook likes for the average NBA team has grown 156% since 2013 to 5.2 million. Meanwhile, the Warriors' popularity has soared 2,500% to 10.4 million. The Warriors now rank fourth in the NBA, behind only the Lakers, Bulls, and Heat. What does those three teams have in common? They were all dynasty organizations.
You guys: Those sources are weak bro!

It's like I'm arguing with Trump supporters. STOP THE COUNT!

No man. Your summary is fantasy. What you said was
Most of their fanbase didn't exist 10 years ago.

You did not say this!

Me: the Warriors gained a ton of fans in their title runs and MOST of those fans weren't around 10 years ago.

You were addressing Steve Kerr winning Championships and not the players.

Furthermore you added the "Most" part afterwards because you got called out on it. What's worse is even adding "Most" still is complete fantasy when you take into account the very nature of media and communication growth as well as the way the NBA started marketing teams and spreading revenue. Might as well say Most of the NBA fans today didn't exist 10 years ago.

Then you have the gall to post like "You have to break this down for other people". Give it a rest.

My Nephew. Young basketball player and fan. He is 15. Yep he is a Golden State Fan, loves Steph Curry but also watches Blazers and likes Lillard. Young new fans tend to like winning teams. Pretty much why the Lakers have fans all over the country. Believe me if the Blazers won a couple titles there would be a slew of new young fans. So yeah i figure he is talking about 12 year olds.

This and GTJR stuff. Yeesh there is a very weird energy with this team and organization rn

It's comments like that that seem to give credence to the people who are convinced the team is tuning him out. He totally threw Jones under the bus, as if he's the reason why the defense was 29th.

The fact that you don't think those are the same thing is concerning.

LOL your own nephew is a fan of the Warriors.

Does he live in the Bay Area?

Read the thread. It will give you an idea about what the conversation is about. Reading is fundamental.
He lives in Oregon. He was about 11-12 when he started liking Steph Curry and the Warriors (3-4 years ago). He also likes Lillard and follows the Blazers. He used to work out at Hassan Whiteside's house. Still plays with the team that all worked out there. So obviously he is watching the Kings as well.

I figure that is your main form of communication but I'm afraid you will eat them.

Well I have tried damn near everything else to explain a concept that's so simple even a five year old could understand it.

You're right! You are explaining something like a five year old. I agree.

This is my last response on this conversation. You made a number of statements that were blatantly simplistic and wrong and you got called on it. Live with it.

Everybody was a Warrior fan back in the days. How couldn't one be?

Fire his ass now. Win or loss him forcing a three guard lineup with no one over 6'4 is unacceptable. How much of a rock do you have to be under to not see the rest of the NBA, how the small forwards are used and how important length and athleticism and size is in this position?

Olshey needs to put more value into his decisions. He has brought in many pieces I think can work, IF used correctly. Unfortunately we have a hamburger flipper as our head coach......

At this point id give the job to @BonesJones. That sounds like a slight, but its not. I seriously think Bones could get more from this team if he held firm on what he wants to see happen and forces accountability.

I saw we trade Stotts for Bones And Hoopshock and see what we got. cant be any worse than some of the shit i've seen Stotts do lately.

Or better yet, lets use a Stott's analogy.

If Bones cant improve our defense, well hell. We were 29th with Bones and 29th without him. So it cant make us much worse right?

MAKE THE CHANGE OLSHEY, OR BE ON THE FIRING LINE YOURSELF!!!!!!

Maybe you guys should start putting together a legitimate list of candidates. I agree this will be his last year, but getting an average coach will not make a difference. And no Spoelstra is not leaving Miami for Portland.
