If we're to the point that a coach is getting fired during the season I think it's shot anyway, and doesn't really matter if you have an interim coach.

You can say what you want but if Stotts doesn't get this turned around pretty quick his seat will start getting warm. It's always on the coach when you see teams simply quit executing and going ISO Dame drive into Gobert type offensive possessions when it really counts.
 
Carlisle is about 1-7 on the season.....they won't fire him because Wes sucks and Dirk is not taking over games....Stotts has a better record ....I think he's safe
 
Stotts should’ve been canned two years ago. He is a mediocre coach at best. Our offense got figured out for the most part after year one and we have been searching for answers on defense for years now. And when we are getting lit up he still refuses to adjust. How many times does some guard go off against us because of our pathetic pick and roll defense that gives up the mid range shot?

It is also on the players but ever since LMA, Wes, Crabbe, Plumlee left... it’s not like we have seen a huge dip in performance from those guys. This tells me Stotts system doesn’t bring out the best in the players. For instance, when players leave the Spurs, Celtics, Warriors, Cavs, they are clearly *not* even close to the same player.

The idea that we need Dame/CJ to always be great every game is insane. Having two players with that scoring ability is a luxury. There are plenty of teams with worse scoring options than us and rosters than us that seem to outperform us every year.

Clippers, Memphis, Utah, San Antonio all have sub par scoring options to us. I’d take OKC, GSW and Houston with CP3, maybe.

I think he is very limited and has a limited IQ for a coach or just doesn’t adjust well. He constantly gets outcoached in the playoffs.

Haven’t been a fan of his for a while, including the years we won (because of injuries - his coaching adjustments never worked).

yeah, theres big difference between Rick Carlisle & Terry Stotts, DAL & POR

Rick Carlisle is one of the very best coaches in the NBA, arguably TOP 3, won a championship with DAL and they werent predicted to make the playoffs this season... Stotts on the other hand isnt TOP 3 coach, did not won a championship and POR is expected to make the playoffs and arguably can win the 5th seed

sorry, but I wont be happy if we finish lower than 6th seed... Stotts is a good coach, but lets not preted like hes the only one who could get us into the playoffs! Im willing to give him more time to turn the things around, but not the whole season, like I said, Id give him until game #30, maybe even half of the season

if we bring in a new coach (not interim coach), hell have half a season + preseason to prepare the team for the next season and everything he does this season (going into the playoffs) is a bonus

that being said, I dont believe Stotts gonna get fired

To be fair, San Antonio had Duncan the best PF to ever play the game. Cleveland has LeBron, and Golden State has Curry and Durant. I think this is less anything to do with Lue Williams or Steve Kerr and more to do with the historically elite talent these players were playing with.

I do think Kerr is a good coach, but I would love to see him coach mediocre talent before I deem him a genius coach. Pop is the only coach that is still coaching that has earned that title IMO.

Same thing was said about Phil Jackson. Always had huge talent to work with. Spoelstra hasn't done much since LeBron left either.

I agree that Scott’s needs to show that he’s the guy to coach this team in the coming years. I think that making those kinds of assessments this early in a season only comes when it’s apparent a coach has lost his team. Scotts is not in that situation. The team is playing hard and, with the exception of one horrific quarter against the Raptors, has looked pretty decent. They’ve been in a position to win the games that they lost to the Jazz, Clippers, and Bucks, but they couldn’t come up with clutch plays when needed. When you’ve got an otherwise good car with a bad clutch, you don’t throw away the car, you fix the clutch. Scotts needs to reassess the end of game play and figure out better ways to get his team to perform.
 
Stotts isn't making the collective team brick layups all game....this is an issue he's addressed...other than that, we're slowly becoming more of a 2 way team...just an offensive slump....still early
 
Just looked up Stotts contract. He's on the books through the '19-'20 season, and averaging about $5M per year.

Looks like PA owes Stotts about $15M. If he's willing to pay $20M for Crabbe (and Nicholson) not to play here.... do you think he'd be willing to pay Stotts $15M not to coach?

It seems like he'll be paying Stotts that money 'not to coach' regardless.
 
IF they let Stotts go (I do not think that happens) mid year I would hope they’d put Tibbets in the interim role. Not Vanterpool. Just from things I’ve heard.

Both have been considered for open head coach positions. But this is an interesting perspective. Always figured DV would get the nod.

I was thinking Vanderpool also but Nate could do it interim i guess. Still not a worthy head coach.
 
Stotts need to hold players accountable of there play and I am questioning that he does especially during the game. I don't know what happens back behind the scene but some of the things they don't do is basketball that you learn in High School. When Turner on a break goes around his back between to guys and lost the ball I would came unglued if I was the coach. CJ trying to do fancy dribble on the base line then dribble it off his foot out of bounds. These are some of the few things I didn't like and these are few that can cost you basketball games.

I spoke with someone I know well about a year ago and he just wasn't a fan - who spends time with the org. I think Nate is a hard working, smart guy who puts in a ton of time. I think he would be best prepared for it.

Hire the best defensive coordinator available as a lead assistant...and hire an elite shooting coach...Mark Price type....Laimbeer just got a cushy desk job in the WNBA but there's Sheed, Ewing, Duncan, Ben Wallace, a lot of bigs who could help our rookies....I think Alajuwon is on the Rockets bench

Olshey's roster forces a guard-oriented offense. Wooden couldn't stand that, so neither can Walton. When Petrie cast off a bad miss from 30 feet while Walton was wide open under the hoop, Walton said, "I just can't play with such selfish players."
