Gonna take Devils advocate here.
First- Kanter is well known to always say decent things about his current situation. It doesn't make it wrong but most will say he says that everywhere.
Second- 8 coaches in 10 years also might not be considered a good thing.
Third- Keeping it real and telling you what you need to hear isn't equating to wins in the playoffs, but i must admit the last time Kanter played here they did indeed win in the playoffs.
I think i got that right? Feel free to add something i might have missed?
Stotts absolutely holds certain players accountable, especially the bigs and young guys.I agree with you that what a player says to the media shouldn't be the gospel. I think it should be given only a minimal amount of weight. I do think that his point of 8 coaches in 10 years was he's not comparing Stotts to just one bad coach, but a bunch of different coaches. Him saying "he tells us what we need to hear, not what we want to hear." is almost the opposite of the players run the asylum narrative. I'm unaware of any playing making slanderous comments about their former coach like PG13 about Doc Rivers.
That's an interesting thought.Stotts absolutely holds certain players accountable, especially the bigs and young guys.
The one thing I give Stotts 100% credit for is recognizing early on that if Dame and to a lesser extent CJ like him then he has a lot higher job security. Unfortunately, I don't think you can properly hold them accountable, especially on defense, doing that. That's an interesting thought.
Do you think he is a bit of a favorites type of coach? Never really looked at it like that?

You do have a point there. If Dame didn't like him he would have been gone long ago for sure. The one thing I give Stotts 100% credit for is recognizing early on that if Dame and to a lesser extent CJ like him then he has a lot higher job security. It's so tough trying to dissect this subject.I agree... I hadn't thought of it that way either. From an outsider, it has appeared like he's been more vocal with Meyers, Nurk, etc.
No clue what practice and film sessions are like. Wonder why the bigs and not the backcourt?
I also wonder if Stotts actually is the kind of person that even thinks like the point that was made?It doesn't seem like Dame requires a lot to be loyal to someone. He seemingly likes a large majroity of his teammates, coaches, etc. I don't get the impression that being hard on Dame would be something that would cause him to demand someone be fired/traded.
This seems more like what i read from Terry Stotts and his assistants.Ever consider that Terry, Dame and CJ are actually friends? You don't have to like somebody because it provides job security and I don't think Stotts been in danger of being fired since 2016...he thought he'd be coaching in France and talked about being interested in the Suns position back then....he wanted to retire in France where he played. Right now these guys have all shared a team for 8-9 years and bonded.....why spin that into Stotts being a paranoid brown noser for a paycheck? It's fine if you don't like Stotts but c'mon.........
My answer to this is if Stotts wasn't insecure about his job why hasn't he brought in a strong defensive minded assistant? You might have a different answer to that but to me he knows if someone comes in and fixes the defense with the same personnel that will reflect poorly on him. I also believe Vanterpool was wanting more responsibility to put himself in a better position to be a head coach and left when he realized that wasn't going to happen here (unfortunately he was basically lied to by Minnesota too).I also wonder if Stotts actually is the kind of person that even thinks like the point that was made?
The idea that he figured out early that he needed to keep Dame happy or he loses his job?
I just don't get that feel from him at all. He seems way to genuine and i don't read him like that.
Stotts has been around a long time but has been in the league much much longer. He is not going to be without a job.
I just don't see him as Job scared?
I cannot say you are wrong at all.My answer to this is if Stotts wasn't insecure about his job why hasn't he brought in a strong defensive minded assistant? The problem for someone like Vanterpool or Tibbets who have gotten interviews for head coach is that if they go into an interview and the interviewer says "What types of schemes did you implement?" And their answer is "well Terry wouldn't allow me to do anything other than what he wanted." Then you don't really have something to point to that you actually can show why you're worthy to get a head coaching assignment even with a glowing recommendation from Stotts. By the way, this was backed up by both Stotts saying the year before DV left that he was asked to change up his schemes by his assistants and decided not to and by Dame when DV was passed over for the Minny job that the assistants have to do what they're told by their head coach.I cannot say you are wrong at all.
It does seem rather tough to believe for me? I guess i just can't really see someone being that way? I guess i would think most head coaches would want their assistants to do well and become head coaches. That is after all what each one of them aspires to be.
Stotts just doesn't seem to me like he is that vindictive and ruthless about keeping his job? He seems to me like he would not only help his assistants but even put a good word in for them.
Terry Stotts is highly respected around the league. You never hear anyone say negative stuff about the man. Sure there are those who disagree with his coaching but not his moral makeup?
But again. Maybe i am totally clueless here?
I kind of think Tibbetts is being groomed to take over here. This is his first season as Associate Head Coach. He's been here for 5 or 6 years and remember he was an assistant somewhere (was it Chicago?). Wasn't he also a head coach in the D league? He's coached all over the place on a number of levels for sure. I can look it up but there was a USA team job too i think? The problem for someone like Vanterpool or Tibbets who have gotten interviews for head coach is that if they go into an interview and the interviewer says "What types of schemes did you implement?" It's called trying to build trade value before the deadline...Rodney's contract is our biggest trade chip on the roster....and Nas has had snowballing injuries from covid to a sprained knee...Stotts said before the break Nas has earned rotation minutes and he's glad Nas is for once...healthy enough to play them......this other narrative that Stotts doesn't play him is just an anti Stotts fart in my view....35 games in ...8 starting lineups...Stotts has been mixing up rotations around injuries and trying to build a bench going into the playoffs...we have a coach who excels at developing young playersWhat a crock of shit. So Hood gets an unlimited leash to be terrible and Little doesn't?
Dame - doesn't play defense
Melo - doesn't play defense
Kanter - doesn't play defense
Hood - horrible at defense
Those guys all get an unlimited leash.

Nonsense....I've heard both guys talk about their relationship and there's mutual respect...this is just more soccer mom anti Stotts ranting Stren.....you have company that's for sure. Must suck to be so down on the team all this time. Try and find something here to enjoy....it's better on the heart coming from a guy who almost died two years ago....stress is not your health's friend. Cheer for the guys worth cheering for...we have a team full of themJust no.
Stotts is only here because Dame has bailed him out. Period.

I don't know who Steve Jones Jr. is
I'm glad to hear that but you're still young....it's accumulative Stren.....try balancing it with some enjoyment of basketball...you'll sleep even better ...and when it comes to Dame and Stotts..sorry dude....I think you're wrong there.I'm not stressed. I'm right. So its easy to sleep at night.
He's the son of The Snapper
Dame not only has bailed Stotts out on the court, but he literally bailed him out from being fired in 2018. Paul Allen was ready to fire Stotts after the Pelicans swept POR in the 1st round. But Dame asked Paul to give him one more season.Nonsense....I've heard both guys talk about their relationship and there's mutual respect...this is just more soccer mom anti Stotts ranting Stren.....you have company that's for sure. So Dame is the only reason that Stotts is still here.
actually that would make Paul Allen the reason Terry is still coach and now his sister ....Paul didn't have to appease anybody...the buck always stopped with Paul...and I think it's great Dame loves his coach...all this hindsight speculation about Stotts being on the hot seat is fan driven here...Dame is part of the reason Stotts is still here...Paul, Neil and Jody are the other reasons other than Stotts is valued by the franchise more than by the S2 forum membership.....we have a healthy locker room and culture. trying to poke holes in it is probably not going to force a coaching change unless it's with ownership ..I don't see any grumbling from that camp...Dame not only has bailed Stotts out on the court, but he literally bailed him out from being fired in 2018.
