They're going to try to break the record for most downloads of a single piece of software in a day, the day it is released.

I've used the betas off and on, and it's BLAZING fast.

What's more important, to me and you, is that it's going to make the next generation of S2 software run really fast. And that's coming soon, too

Um...I think I just got it, haha. I had beta, and it said something about an update, I didn't read it cause I'm lazy tho. And I downloaded it, installed it...It says "Firefox Version 3.0". Sweet.

I want to switch, but I'm not sure if all my extensions will work. I'm guessing userchrome stayed the same? I have mine optimized for workspace.

I put 3 on another computer straight away, and it is great.

Only problem I had was with Mouse Gestures, but Fire Gestures is compatible and it's the same thing.

That's Release Candidate 2. It was released some time last week I think.

Noia 2.0 doesn't work yet, so everything looks weird.

We all know you like little stuff, Yinka.

So are all of you guys who are complimenting its speed just using the beta of 3?

I tried it earlier today for about half an hour and honestly didn't notice a speed change.

Yeah, I think I read somewhere that it uses half the ram of FireFox 2.

I think everyone was talking about the speed of the browser it self.

The full version will be available June 17th.

Firefox 3 Draws Near

The third major release of the browser that ended Microsoft Internet Explorer's monopoly is almost here. Mozilla Firefox 3 will ship on Tuesday the 17th. To mark the occasion, the non-profit behind this open-source browser hopes to set a new world record -- most downloads of a program in a 24-hour span -- on that day.

Like a lot of programs these days, however, Firefox 3 has been available for months already in pre-release form -- first as an alpha last summer, then a beta starting last winter and, for the last several weeks, in "release candidate" builds. The arrival of the "finished" version may be a formality for many people; I myself have now put Firefox 3 on every computer but my desktop at the office.

Despite beta software's deserved reputation for unreliability, using Firefox 3 has been almost completely drama-free. The only problem I've found so far have been add-ons that don't work, which I expect will be updated for the new browser soon enough.

It may be that I could have written my Firefox 3 review weeks ago (as one of my competitors did). But I'll save it for next week, when I can test-drive what most people will still recognize as the real thing.

For now, I'd like to get your take on Firefox 3 if you've already made a release-candidate build your everyday browser. Does it deliver what you wanted? Where does it fall short? Do any Web sites not look or work right in it?

You'll be able to download it at 1:00 EST today. Get ready!

The wait on updates for extensions is what bothered me last time. I'll install 3.0 at work, and see how it goes.

Not all. I still have extensions that only work with 1.5

Good idea. I hear it installs and then rapidly downloads robo-porn really fast.

But only at work

The only add-ons I haven't had an update for are FasterFox and TabMix Plus. Everything else is up to date on RC3, which was only released about 5 days ago. (Ad-Block Plus, Fliterset G, ColorfulTabs, Download Statusbar, FlashGot, FoxyTunes, G-Mail Notifier, Image Zoom and NoScript). So I'd imagine they would be available even faster for the official release of FF3.

Fasterfox, TM+, open java console, dictionary tooltip, colorzilla, unplug, swift tabs are all unupdated for me.
