Gary Forbes makes me laugh. A shooting guard who shoots 40% from the field, 72% from the line and doesn't even hit 30% of his threes. A poor defender to boot.
Yikes.

On the other hand, Draftexpress makes me laugh sometimes. For example, some of the weaknesses for DJ White, who is a PF, are... "Lacks great range on jumper", " Ball-handling skills" and "Struggles defending perimeter". What's the point of writing this? That's like saying that Derrick Rose can't defend the post and has no back to the basket game.

Did you watch Forbes at UMass? No? Ok.


Forbes had to play Forward for them, out of position and the team relied on him for all of their offense, pretty much, which is why his shooting %'s were low. The only other viable option they had was Ricky Harris, who is trash.

And Forbes is not a poor defender. He'll never be on any all defensive teams, but he's an average defender. He pretty much guarded PF's in college, but his perimeter defense is not piss poor, it's average.

I think Arthur could be the pick, but I am not crazy about him. I expect we will learn how the Nets saw him by tomorrow...from Kerber or D'Alessandro.

I like Arthur his a safe pick, definately a guy who can come in and contribute right away. My two concerns about Arthur is his strenght against NBA bigs especially in the post. The second is NJ don't need help in that position, we have Boone, who is already contributing playing the role Arthur will be playing in NJ and Sean Williams is definately a freak that can become an allstar if we develop him properly.

Agreed. I'm not a big fan of Nbadraft.net, but they actually had a good description of him a while back as a 'sleeping giant.' He really would have done better at another school, even though he wound up with a ring at KU, because he was so low on the totempole with all the upperclassman talent the Jayhawks had, plus having Julian Wright on the roster last season.

He's inconsistent, but you can see that he has the potential to be a star. In the #6-14 range of the lotto, usually one player in every draft either reaches the All-Star level or just about reaches the brink of it, and I think Arthur's definitely the player in this year's draft who'll wind up having the most success from that range. He's a real hit-or-miss prospect though, given that you don't know where his head's at, and you don't know if he'll be able to add weight to his frame (some guys you can just tell that they'll always be skinny, but Arthur doesn't necessarily have a narrow/weak frame... it could really go either way).

And as far as the Nets go, he'd be perfect. I can see him being on the All-Rookie team next year if the Nets draft him more than any other team, given their tempo. He's got areas of his game to develop, but he'll still be able to step into a complimentary starter role for New Jersey next season given that they have holes in the post as well.

Exactly, but that's not exactly a good thing for a player's development. When you look at a lot of NCAA powerhouses, like Kansas, Michigan State, Duke, etc., they often have a lot of prospects that produce a lot more on the collegiate level because they go to systems that don't prepare them well for the NBA and are slower, more win-now NCAA oriented. Just look at players like Kirk Hinrich, Mateen Cleaves, J.J. Redick, Nick Collison, Drew Neitzel, Mario Chalmers, DeMarcus Nelson, Aaron Miles, Andre Hutson, Wayne Simien, Morris Peterson, and even Jay Williams (probably would have been a bust on the pro level, imo... I'll expand if anyone disagrees), etc.

For every Carlos Boozer or Jason Richardson those types of schools produce, there's always countless numbers of All-American type talents they consume and turn out with NBDL/Euroleague careers because the collegiate styles they foster aren't the NBA styles that the pro-factories like UNC, UConn, Memphis, etc. do.

I would have liked to see Arthur go to UConn actually. I don't even remember if that was a school he was considering, but he would have definitely developed as more of an NBA prospect in their system, to the point where he may be considered a top 3 pick in this year's draft.

The point is, college styles matter a lot, and Arthur was held back by his, but he still got out of it early enough.

DA's a good player. I just think because he's not a raw 18yr old 7 footer with a buncha potential he's getting overlooked. He could immediately step into Boki's minutes and improve our team, no doubt in my mind.

I've said it all along, he is my personal choice for our #10 pick (if we keep it). I like him a lot for our team. A lot.

Although with teams like Miami, Minny & Milwaukee open to the idea of dealing their picks; maybe we move down?
