There has been a mass school shooting in Florida. Many injured, repprtedly 40-50 students are being taken to the hospital. Shooter has reportedly escaped and is on the loose. Explosion heard. Its never going to stop

Yeah I’m watching the news now. Sad man. Nothing is clear yet, except shooter at large at people are injured, some possibly dead

When shit like this happens, I hate it but I’m also very curious about the shooters situation. How did he get to this point? What happened? I mean this is high school. He’s very young. How did he get the gun? What kind of gun is it? What was going on in his life? Mental health? We need to figure out what drives people to do this shit. No normal person thinks of doing this to people. Mental health is too big of an issue in this country. Way more of an issue than guns

The classic troubled kid. Apparently number of fatalities now. Sad all around on all parts

Apparently he attended an "Alternative School".

The short bus strikes again.

Apparently shooter was an ex student at the school...

This is the 18 mass shooting this year. This has become the norm. Fucking sad

The former student suspected of opening fire at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland may been identified a potential threat to fellow students in the past, according to one teacher.

The 19-year-old ex-student, who has been detained by Broward police, has not been publicly identified as a suspect. But a law-enforcement source identified him as Nicolas Cruz.

“We were told last year that he wasn’t allowed on campus with a backpack on him,” said math teacher Jim Gard, who said Cruz had been in his class last year. “There were problems with him last year threatening students, and I guess he was asked to leave campus.”

As for Gard, he said he believes the school administration earlier sent out an e-mail warning teachers that the student had made threats against others in the past and that he should not be allowed on the campus with a backpack.

We need to lower the bar to put people into mental institutions.

If everyone predicted it, something could of been done. That’s the sad part. Everybody made jokes about it until it became real. Obviously this kid has deeper issues. Everybody right now is too busy talking about gun control and that’s fine but the real culprit is mental health and with these shootings that occur, they both rise. It’s a real societal issue here that’s way more troubling than guns but nobody talks about it or if they do they just say the person is crazy.

So many people are mentally ill in this country. Its often ignored and people surrounding those spiraling out of control basically wait until someone "crashes and burns".

and the thing is, lets say you do some sort of a law on assault rifles, whatever it is. It wont stop guys who want guns from getting them. It just wont. Just like you wont stop people who want these illegal drugs from getting drugs. I am so tired of school shootings happening and the first thing people do is blame guns and it's not even like I am a gun nut because I am not. I have a shotgun in the house and a handgun. That's it. It's just for protection. I don't care to fuck with assault rifles. This is a serious mental health situation and problem. Yeah, it's fucking terrible 17 teens died today at the hands of this dude but all the interviews I am seeing from these students are saying they knew this kid was messed up, had problems with teachers, etc.

Its crazy too because there are levels. Like. most of the time the insane will seem sane. You have to watch closely to see the quirks and odd behavior. Otherwise its easy to dismiss as simple confusion or exhaustion or many other things.

You need a shotgun and a handgun for 'protection'? Must be a really rough neighborhood you live in. Glad I live in Portland where it is safer.

I don't live far from him. 129 and stark and I own a rental on 165th and stark.

IN the last four months, My house was broken into and a good friend was shot and murdered right on Stark.

Cippy is not off base.

The thing is there are TOO many enablers. Parents who ignore the signs and say that their son is harmless. Spouses with husbands that are completely bonkers who ignore crazy fucking behavior and say they are just "being creative". All that shit. Lots of crazy nutbags out in this world, there should be more padded rooms made available for them.

I agree and I think some of it is too, ohhh just put them on ridilen or some other drug that is supposed to stabilize them. Drugs aren't gonna keep the insane sane....

So, how much more in taxes are you willing to pay for more padded rooms? Locking people up costs a lot.

Also, are you ok with locking lots of people up who haven't actually done anything violent? There is a danger there that someone might decide you were a candidate for the white room...

1. All of it.

2. Yes; No, I am a stable genius.

Hey, I live in FLINT FUCKING MICHIGAN and have never needed a gun in my life.

Is the US literally the most insane country in the world? It would have to be for mental illness to be the key factor in all these deaths. Of course, you have to be insane to think it's not guns that's the problem.

I'm calling for building a big beautiful wall between Portland and the eastern suburbs.

Yup, eventually they get off their meds and decide it slows them down too much. Some people just need to be locked up
