Another shrimp on the barbie.
However, I think pineapple goes best with pork. I love it with ham and with pork spare ribs on the barbie. Something about pork and cooked pineapple. Yum
I never grill my shrimp. I steam them or deep fry them. Side dishes are hard to choose from for shrimp. Ribs are easy, corn on the cob and mashed potatoes.
Here's another great side dish for grilling. Try slicing a tomato in half and throw each half on the grill. The skin side remains down the least of the time while the cut side remains down for most of the time. Use a knife and fork on the tomato. The flavor as it accompanies the main dish is incredible. Of course, you've got to like tomatoes.

Remind me to grill you one of my world famous teriyaki burgers (think: Bonzai Burger from Red Robin). I specially marinate the burger to perfection. Has a fresh pineapple slice; usually, a slice of Tillamook sharp cheese (or provolone), tomato, and lettuce. Other options include a slice of red or green pepper. I've even added bacon, although, it doesn't need it. I happen to love onion or potato buns.

You are going to grill me? With bacon? Crap, can't even turn me into a kosher burger.

It's artichoke season people! We moved this fall and I left my beautiful artichoke bushes in my old house. I miss them so much, for years we had unlimited artichokes for 3 weeks or so. What's the best way to eat artichokes? I am glad you asked. My two favorite methods first involve halving them, scouping out the fuzz and then cooking in an instant pot pressure cooker. Then you either

1) slather in butter and garlic and grill them on the BBQ.

Or

2) lay them out on a baking sheet and cover then in olive oil, salt and balsamic vinegar (or some type of Italian dressing) and then broil them.

Both methods are amazing in their own way

I've missed artichoke season both times I've been to Rome. One of my life's goals is to visit Italy during the season

Give me a plain old ground beef. My wife has been getting 85% lean but ground sirloin 80% lean would be perfect. I use to llike all the condiments but now I can't handle it that thick so mine just has thousand island dressing and sweet onion. I useally have Walla Walla Sweets but the last few have had Sweet Vidalias and they were fabulous. My wife peels the onions down to the tender part. and the slices are whole. I eat a naturally fermented pickle on the side and sometimes a handful of potatato chips. All of this is washed down with an icy cold root beer that has small chunks of ice in it. Now stop it, you are making my mouth water.

One of my favorite foods is a boiled artichoke with lots of mayonnaise and an ice cold soft drink. I use to have a cola but those are now off my diet due to their potassium level. so now it's my second favorte, a high quality root beer.

mayonnaise will put the choke in art.....I'll pass.....artichokes to me are best pickled in good vinegar....

I love taking Artichoke hearts, combining with oil, salt, pepper, Panko bread crumbs, shredded Parmesan in a bowl, mix well (can also add Ponzu sauce). On a shallow tray at 400 deg F. for 20 minutes. Lovely. If you do not like artichoke hearts, you can change with cauliflower florets and add an extra 5 minutes.

Yum! Man, speaking of root beer, I must have downed over 1,000 gallons of A&W root beer over the years from that little joint across the street from George Rogers Park. It's since been long torn down.

I remember when they built that one near George Rogers park. When it first opened they had teenage girls on roller skates delivering orders to the cars. They also had freezer chilled glass mugs with hard ice cream and A&W root beer. They had a baby burger, mama burger and daddy burger with yummy fries and onion rings. That was my favorite place to eat. I also liked the Pinafore and the Dairy Maid. Sometimes me and my buddy, Jerry, would drop by the Cove where his grandmother worked and she would give us a free order of fries. Man were they good. Sadly, my buddy, Jerry, taught me to eat fries with lots of ketchup and even more salt. Today it takes all of my will power to leave the ketchup and the salt alone on my fries. Jerry? Well, he is in the pink of health and was even the fleet boxing champion for his weight class when he was in the Navy. Jerry was always a great fighter. His father always taught that disagreements should be settled by putting on boxing gloves. Never my philosophy since I was the smallest boy in my class. Good thing for me that Jerry was my best friend.

The Pinafore and the Dairy Maid were owned by the former mayor of Oswego who were also the parents of a former good friend of mine when I lived in a different neighborhood, the Needhams. That guy was a little greedy and never gave me anything for free and I never saw him give anything to his son for free. I was just 9 years old when I moved out of that neighborhood.

I (kinda) remember some, uhhm, dubious times I encountered at the Beachcomber. I worked across the street at the old Thriftway (now Albertson's, I believe) and sometimes would trot over there after a late shift.

On the menu today:

smoked pork ribs. 6 hours smoke. Brown sugar, mustard, mr Stubbs dry rub, sprayed with apple juice every hour.

Smoked queso dip for appetizer. With velveta cheese, Rotel peppers, diced chiles, cream of mushroom soup and jimmy dean sausage

corn on the cob. Sweet white corn

desert is pecan pie bars

staying hydrated with an assortment of various IPAs. Started off with a delicious Bloody Mary about an hour ago

We ordered live lobsters a few months ago, got some New England clam chowder also. They next day ship and it worked out great. It wasn't cheap but it wasn't outrageous either. I need to lean how to cook lobster better and I could use some better crackers but it was fun and we would do it again. If you like that sort of thing I recommend it. There are few services but we used these guys.

Lobster is delish. I used to deliver to a food cart off 82nd and Flavel area and every couple weeks they’d get lobster Next Day Air in from Maine. I’d stop there for lunch once in awhile. They had a phenomenal lobster roll. Their bisque was really good too.

Went to Boston in 05’ and felt like I ate a ton of lobster. Haven’t had fresh lobster in a couple years. So damn good.

My wife is in Florida for the week with her sister and niece. Hence, I'm batchin' it. Gonna go old school today with a tater salad and spatchcock chicken on the grill later this afternoon. Dang, I need to invite my brother-in-love over!!
