Olshey loves the buyout market.
Pretty sure Milsap signed with the Celtics already..he's off the marketThere is literally no reason to not do a one year deal at $5M for Millsap. All reports are that he's looking for a deal above the vet min, and hasn't found one.
He's a good vet presence that can play 4/5, and he's a salary filler to use mid-season. Unless you care about Jody's pocketbook this is a no-brainer.
No he hasn’t.Pretty sure Milsap signed with the Celtics already..he's off the market
Yep. They can.Can we put Olshey on the buyout market?
Neil has always gone into seasons with a spot open for flexibility. And given the tax implications, it doesn't seem necessary to carry 15 vs 14.Instead of starting a new thread I’ll just put it here.
Short of an injury to Chriss or Smith, team will carry 15 players. Change my mind.

team is in the tax whether they carry 14 or 15 players. Flexibility also isn’t an issue with as many expirings/minimums they have. It also isn’t true that Olshey always goes into the season with an open spot. Had a full roster as recently as 18/19
i meant the tax bill would be greater, and make it more difficult to duck under come trade deadline like he has done in the past. Still also don't see the utility. Maybe if it were a budding prospect with potential, it would make sense to keep on as a practice body, but guys mid-career like Smith/Chriss? I'm not seeing the advantage of it. Can always sign them later in case of injury anyway.
true, but they're still not difference makers. i think we'll sign one of em, but let's see. Both those guys are better than the typical players the blazers invite to camp. Tbh I don’t think either one comes to Portland unless they’ve got a good shot at making the team.
If the Blazers could sign Milsap, or LaMarcus, or Kevin Love level of player with the 14th spot on a vet minimum contract you do it and risk staying in the luxury tax.
Chriss and Smith Jr wouldn't be in the rotation at all right now nor project to help in the playoffs so I don't believe the team would risk luxury tax to sign those guys. Maybe if they are amazing in training camp that changes.
I dunno--I see value in a guy like Chriss as a potentially higher-ceiling alternative to Zeller. And if Simons continues to be ineffective at PG, having a guy like Smith as an alternative makes a lot of sense.i meant the tax bill would be greater, and make it more difficult to duck under come trade deadline like he has done in the past. Flexibility from the context of being able to do an imbalanced trade without other roster machinations. Signing Chriss AND Smith now would mean one would have to be dumped (presumably using an incentive) if we were to trade someone in a 1 for 2 or 2 for 3 deal.

The tax isn't calculated now its at the end of the season, so its not certain the Blazers will be in the tax when the season is over. Signing more players now, even for the minimum, makes it potentially more difficult to maneuver under the tax.the blazers are already in the tax. And btw a team can’t carry 13 players for more than a week or two.
What are you using to evaluate Chriss to be anything more than a scrub big? I don't see him being better than Giles/Skal, much less Zeller (dude was making 15 mil as a pseudo starter the past four years). There's a reason Chriss hasn't stuck in the NBA and guys like him are a dime a dozen. I think bringing him to training camp was nothing more than a favor to Aaron Goodwin.I dunno--I see value in a guy like Chriss as a potentially higher-ceiling alternative to Zeller. I agree that it's unlikely that both are brought in, but I definitely see a reason and certainly wouldn't be opposed.
Seemed like he had a pretty decent year for GSW in 19/20. I assume his ceiling would be higher than his performance in that season. What are you using to evaluate Chriss to be anything more than a scrub big? And yet Zeller was signed on Day 1 of free agency, while Chriss is out search for training camp invites. Let's see if he sticks or has to go to the Balkans for this season.Chriss’ season with GS vs Zeller last season
