Dejaun Blair - Less than 4 mil so we wouldn't need to release any players
Jason Collins - I would suspect we would need to release Freeland to have around 4-5 mil to sign him.
DeSagana, Diop - Probably need around 3-5 mil to sign him
Timothy Mosgove - I think anything we offer will probably be matched by Denver.
Johan Petro - Probably only need around 2 mil to grab him.
Chris Wilcox - I think Vet Min is fine for him.
Brandan Wright - I don't think we could get him; but I think he's going to demand around 4-5 mil. Is he even worth that?

All in all, the back-up center just needs to be a 2nd string type player. Someone that can provide 10-15 solid minutes. I think all the above can and I'd feel much better if we had any of these available if Lopez goes down with an injury.

Diop is terrible too. No way he gets more than vet min. Couldn't even get mins on the Bobcats.

None of those guys are good defensively. I don't know why we would want them.

Dejaun Blair - Won't get more then 3 MIL a year. Not really a Center though.
Jason Collins - Has no skills. Don't want him even for Vet minimum.
DeSagana, Diop - No way you need 3 to 5 to pay this stiff.
Timothy Mosgove - Den will match. They traded away Kostus to get him some time.
Johan Petro - Vet minimum.
Chris Wilcox - Yes vet minimum is fine. He isn't bad but not a real Center either.
Brandan Wright - DAL is going to sign him for 2 year deal (with player or team option for 3rd) at 4 MIL a year.

You really overvalued these Centers outside of Mozgov and Wright.

Honestly outside of maybe the two guys that aren't Centers I see no upgrades here (can't get the other two that would be decent).

Diop was getting almost a block a game with playing only 10 minutes. He got 2.3 rebounds in that mark; which is about a rebound every 10 minutes. I'm not considering the scoring as much as the defense. Charlotte was horrible offensively; but they had some better defensive players. Obviously he wouldn't have good playing time because they had centers that played his role better. Freeland and Leonard are absolutely atrocious on defense. It's not even close, and that's bad.

Also, Diop had a 16 rebound game and a few 10 defensive rebound games and a couple 10 offense rebound games. He's had a few 6 block games too; so all these can happen again.

Blair was on a great defensive unit with great bigs. Blair did much better the year before.

These players aren't the answer. Lopez is the answer; but we need other bigs to toss at teams if shit gets injured or in foul trouble.

Have you seen Diop play recently? He's is absolutely horrid.

Wish we could get Dalembert for $2.5mil

DAL is going to throw a little more money than that his way. Plus he is practically guaranteed to start there.

It would be nice to have someone "like" him though.

No, we can't. The 2.5 we have is via the room exception. You cannot combine exceptions with cap space.

I thought we used the room exemption on Watson and we still had the 4 mil available from cap. If that's not the case, then we have two 2.5 mils to offer? Wouldn't releasing freehand + the 1.5 mil = 2.5 mil as well?

Releasing Freeland or any other player does not get us out of their contract. The only way to do that is to amnesty him and we've used up our 1 time amnesty on Brandon Roy.

i.e. We don't get more cap space by waiving a player. Yes, we should waive Freeland anyway.

I WANT ALL THESE PLAYERS I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT, THEY ARE AWESOME

RELEASE THE HOUNDS

That is not entirely true. I wouldn't release Freeland (we already will have roster space to bring in a Center if we want) but if you do waive him then you can stretch the payments out over the length of his contract and it does save you some money THIS year. Not overall though so you are partially right.

I remember Brian stating that the cap hit is reduced because the release can be spread out in 4 years. Let's say a player is getting 3.5 mil for the next 3 years; adding the extra year will reduce the cap hit.

Pretty much sums it up. I'd rather have no name talent I know nothing about than a player that I'd worry to bang with a 10 year old.

Ahhh Okay I used the wrong wording. It's "waiving"

Got me, sounds like we'd save about a mil and a half this year. I don't know how much we have left under the cap though.

IF OL-SHE NEW HOW TO DRAFT AND SIGN PEOPLE WE WOULDNT NEED TO HAVE THIS DISCUSSION

He did. We got Lillard. Your sarcasm is silly and the CAPS LOCK is annoying. We could have traded the #13 pick for an actual talent in last summer's draft. Then we wouldn't have had this discussion. For all we know, maybe Olshey wanted to, but didn't want to make a big stink for trading away the tanking pick of ours.

The assumption has always been that Watson's a minimum salary guy, not impacting our cap number. Our current cap figure of $57.6M is based on the other 13 guys not named Terrell Harris.

We have only 1.1M remaining in cap space, and completely separate from that, we have the $2.6M room exception.
