Free agents/trades to rebuild around? (1 Viewer)

So let's say things don't go to plan and we lose LA and can't sign a big name free agent (Love, Monroe, Jordan) what free agents would you guys pursue, and who would you trade for?

So right now we have around $44M in cap space.

1. Trade Henderson for Hibbert, $33M remaining.
-I've been down on Hibbert for building a contender around, but if we're rebuilding, we have nothing to lose from "kickin the tires".

2. Max Khris Middleton (2 years, 33 million, with a team option)
-I don't think the Bucks will resign Middleton if he gets offered the max. The dudes a better and younger version of Carroll, but the Bucks have Parker, Antetokuonpo, Vasquez, OJ Mayo, and Dudley on the wing. They'd rather keep their max cap space to add a star big man (Millsap would fit perfectly as a shooter, DeAndre's meeting with them). We only give him 2 years with a team option because if he doesn't perform well enough we can get more space next year.
($17M remaining)
3. Sign KJ McDaniels, 1 year $6M
-Having no bird rights on him will make it hard for Houston to retain him. He's young, super athletic, and a good defender. He's a SG version of RHJ, in my opinion, and if he can develop his shot he'll be deadly.
4. Resign Wesley Matthews 2 years, 34 million (Team Option)
-since we can over the cap to resign Wes, why not reward him and give him enough money to convince him to sign for what ultimately would be a one year contract. See how he recovers, and let him handle the ball and be a playmaker like he wants
4. Sign Jermaine O'Neal (cap space exception)
- He can mentor Leonard and Vonleh

SF Middleton (30) / Pat (8) / Wes (8)
PF Leonard (28) / Vonleh (20)

If we declined all options next year, we would have Dame, CJ, Meyers, Vonleh, Plumlee, and Pat for around $14M (Before extensions) plus a lottery pick. We could hold of negotiations on Dame till wereally done with free agency, and that would leave us with $70M enough for Durant, Butler and another max level player.

What's your guys rebuild plan, or at least your list of guys to build around??

Middleton by far. One of the most versatile shooters in the league. Played heavily at SG and .....PF last year.

MIL have been very direct in their "we will match anything" stance. Milsap-like front loaded offer sheet perhaps?

I like the idea of bringing in a mentor for Vonleh - Scola would be my target.

I have a feeling that trading a big in Ilyasova for a wing in Butler, saving some money might be a sign of them looking for a big.they'll hand to trade away $6M in salary, so let's say they trade Bayless away and Dudley opts out.

If you max out any young wing, you make a generous offer to Tobias Harris. Add him and Greg Monroe to the mix and you have a young and damn tough team.

Im all for spending big money on Young players and then either keeping them or using them to make a move next summer when the cap goes up and those young players on great contracts look even better

"Toxic", "Millsap" offers are extinct. They went the way of the sign-and-trade. Technically, they're still possible. But you can only frontload 15% of the contract in a bonus (and only 10% for a restricted free agent--I think this is referred to as the "Larry Miller Addendum to the 2011 CBA"). And only 25% of base salary (plus signing bonus) can be paid before October 1. So even if you max out Middleton with a toxic offer (and this generally only worked with cash-poor owners who had to come up with the entire signing bonus and most of the first-year salary on just 7-days' notice) the signing bonus is under 7M. Nothing that a billionaire (or a team with sufficient operating capital) would be terrified by, especially now that the trick has been played before and owners and GMs know to prepare for it.

Offering Middleton more money makes it less likely for them to match. Cap space isn't as valuable when you're rebuilding, so I say give him the max, he'll be a bargain when the cap kicks up. I think Middleton fits better than Harris. He's a lockdown defender, while Harris is below average. Middleton is a 40% 3pt shooter, who shoots 50% inside the arc, and can play SG or SF.

I think our team would be better than last years team with a Kevin love and Middleton signing. Batum and RoLo are both on the decline. Middleton and Plumlee and Vonleh have very promising futures with good upside. Gerald Henderson/CJ could easily equal Batum and Matthews production. The new additions would make us an uptempo exciting team plus depth golden state like.

that team would be atrocious defensively. Get Middleton. He's a better fit offensively for Lillard and is a lockdown defender

Completely agree replace LA and Wes for guys that similar that can shoot the ball well from the perimeter. Not only do we just sign guys that are big names like Monroe or THarris but we have to make sure they fit in with what we're use to. No to signing both Monroe and Harris. Neither can defend a lick. We need guys like Middleton, that can shoot, finish around the rim, and lock down guys. We could get Monroe only if we have an ideal rim protecter. If Meyers can develop that, he'd be a prefect fit next to Monroe. You wouldn't even have to classify one as PF and one as C as Monroe would be an interior presence offensively with Meyers spacing and defensively Meyers would protect the rim
