To eliminate foul shots, have one player take an uncontested shot from anywhere on the court. Then a player from the other team tries to make the same shot. If he misses, his team is assigned the letter "H". This continues until one team has collected the letters H, O, R, S, and E. At that point the other team is the victor.

I think the NBA is a near perfect product, and free throws are a major element of the game. And while I don't want them to change much, I too have a few aforementioned gripes:

1. Jump balls are fucking stupid. I'm fine with it to start the game because it evens out (each team gets the ball twice), but when a player is tied up? It's just silly. Should have a possession arrow. Besides, it's just another thing people can blame on the refs. I hate it.

2. Taking charges! Wtf. Remember the days when that call was rare? Let's go back. Before a dude had to be COMPLETELY set in position. Now? Guys can practically slide over while a player is already airborne. It's dumb and annoying and overused.

3. Talking to the goddamn refs. Enough already. Leave these dudes alone. Why Adam Silver doesn't crack down on this is beyond me. It is relentless and unfair to the refs and everyone else involved. And it's just a bad look.

Anyhow...back to free throws: I hope the Blazers make theirs this evening en route to victory!

1. I actually agree with this. Size of players in the tie-up shouldn't make a difference in the tie-up. Either let the teams choose who they want to jump, or have a possession arrow.
2. Nah. Reward who gets to the spot first. That's how it should always be. The offense already has a lot in their favor. If they changed this, the game would be nearly unwatchable.
3. There should be an "excessive complaining" technical that refs shouldn't be afraid to call. You complain about four straight calls in 3 minutes? Technical. Everyone on a team complains excessively twice in a row? Team technical. They have to fix the complaining. But they also need to hold refs more accountable at the same time. Improving the integrity of the game from both sides is something they really need to look at this summer.

You're completely wrong on block/charge calls.

A player has NEVER had to be set.

As a matter of fact the rule book SPECIFICALLY says you can be moving.

#3 does exist. And there was like 2 seasons when they enforced it. As far as I know that rule has never changed. Excessive complaining is unsportsmanlike.

I'll explain it again:

The 2 questions you ask yourself when you referee block/charge:

1. Is the defender in a legal guarding position? (In bounds, feet facing the offensive player, squarely in front)
2. Does the offensive player go to AND through the defender?

If you answer is affirmative to both questions, you have a player control foul.
If either of those answers is negative, you have a blocking foul or a no call.

Not sure if you're laughing in agreement or not but answer this:

How can one maintain a legal guarding position (In bounds, feet facing the offensive player, squarely in front) if he stands still and sets his feet?
