The focus needs to be both on mental health and guns. Not one or the other. We need to keep guns out of mentally ill people's hands. Parents need to put in an effort to keep guns out of their kids hands.

This kid was online saying the gun was his and did a countdown to killing people. The dad was in to see the principal about it the morning of and he didn't go and check to make sure his gun was safe?

There needs to be focus from all points in this. That's how a massive issue like this gets solved.

i dont disagree, but i still believe it should be prioritized and healing the mental health should come before gun control.

How do we know how much gun control is needed if we aren't mentally healthy?

You mean like the anti-car barriers installed at places like the Moda center, Las Vegas strip, and other parade routes?

Yes, people talk and take actions to try and prevent things like that from happening again. That's a very normal reaction.

I'm sure the parade route where the fucktard drove will have anti-car barriers, I'm sure the Rose Festival parades will have car barriers.
A commentator on CNN said "that car that ran into people at the Parade". Didnt mention the dirtbags name at all and could have. Bothered me as thats the one a tune into too. But they are as bad anymore for politicizing everything. Propaganda media I guess.

I don't think we want to advertise his name. People who do this are often seeking glory. I wish we could get news media to leave these people's names out of it all together.

Don't make them into martyrs for the deranged.

Mom texted him saying 'Ethan, don't do it' after school meeting HOURS before shooting.

next time a Car rams a crowd, im blaming these guys:

Bout the logic as blaming the nra for a mass shooting…

“We need equality! We need to take care of all!”( which is good)

but lets dismiss the mental issues of the disturbed and focus efforts on an inanimate object…

(which is extremely hypocritical to the first quoted line)
Cars are necessary to keep us from being cavemen. Guns are necessary if you are a caveman or in the military or police force.
I fully understand hunting but handguns are another matter as are large capacity magazines, weapons similar to assault rifles and cop killer bullets.
Now you've got bona fides far Right wacko militia training to use military tactics with assault style weapons.
Think about this, when you see a guy carrying a rifle into a convenience store you know what's probably coming up but when a guy comes into a store carrying a concealed handgun you have no way to see what's coming and no way to prepare especially when the perp can swing his weapon into action rapidly.

The gun was in a drawer in the nightstand in the bedroom. Not even locked away.

Hoping the kid gets murked in prison. He's in regular prison i believe not juvie.

Murked?

I'm sure he is not in general population. Probably in his own cell.

If you're in public you have people walking around you all day, every day carrying handguns.

If you're not a gang member you have far more to fear from cars than you do guns.

Is this a sign that maybe not everyone should be a parent?
Nope. You don't want to make reactive laws restricting citizens rights because of a crazy kid.

You learn from it and try to catch the next one as early as possible. Hopefully getting them the help they need before they become a danger to anybody.

No...well probably....but it's certainly a sign that we will see more parents being held accountable for their kids shooting up schools.

If parents see that they will go to prison if their kid goes on a mass shooting at school, hopefully we will see more parents being alot more careful about locking away guns at home where there kids can't get to them, and in turn less school shootings will occur.

Not a crazy kid. I mean yeah he was nuts, but that’s a separate issue only tied to the parents through their potential contribution to his mental state.
But the parent’s behavior the day of, is a separate issue in my opinion.
Adults with that type of sense, or lack of, raising children?
Yeah its very likely the parents contributed to the kids mental condition…

what if the children’s issues are the fault of the parents though?

don't get me wrong. Im not yet, lol, for any type of childbirthing license for parents or anything but, what do we do when idiots are popping out psychos?

I'm sure some of what caused him to shoot up his school started at home. Living in a dysfunctional home likely played a part. We know his dad and birth mom divorced and live over a 1000 miles apart. That can't be easy on a kid alone.

Well, kids aren't or at least probably aren't born psychos. They become psychos. Puppies are not born killers. They are mistreated and are trained that way.

Though you have your misnomers like Ted Bundy who seemingly had very loving church going parents.

If you have parents who are dysfunctional or abusive you take the children away to put them somewhere safe with a family who can care for them. We are also seeing more of educating parents. Parent support groups. A lot of people were never given a an example of a loving parent and do not know how to be one. There is support for that.

I think the anger that many of us feel is because these shootings continue unabated because far too many people make excuses for the shooters, rather than put the blame squarely on the American mentality towards gun ownership. Which is exactly where it belongs. It seems like after every mass shooting, politicians and gun owners send their “thoughts and prayers” to the families of the victims, and then they loosen up gun laws even more. The mentality is that if everyone was armed, there would be no more mass shootings. How stupid is that???? I’m “blindly” angry because gun owners don’t have any desire for a solution. “Rights” come before the lives of others, and they just want their gun ownership as unfettered as possible. Insanity at it’s finest. Call me whatever you want OB, I’m furious that gun ownership is still a “right” in 21st Century America. Almost 250 years in, America still can’t get it’s head out of it’s ass.
Yet ironically the states with the highest percentage of gun ownership are also some of the safest. But yes let's punish tens of millions of responsible gun owners for the transgressions of a handful of whack jobs.

Parents turn out in force and threaten school boards over masks and teaching history that makes white people uncomfortable. Guns? Freedumb!!!!!

I share your anger. The parents in the case being held accountable will set a strong precedent. This is exactly what is needed. (well a lot more than that is needed, but this is a good start). When parents start getting held responsible for their kids using their guns to shoot people, it will lead to more proactive parents who dont want to go to prison, and therefore less of these school shootings.

What gets me is, when you start to try and have this confirmation about guns, people point their fingers elsewhere, begin the what aboutisms instead of just sticking with what is being put out there. Guns are deadly. We need change or more kids will be shit at school and the like.

It seems people care more about being able to own a piece of metal than they do about the lives of children. It sickens me.
